FOREST, Va. – For the third straight week, a member of the Emory & Henry College Softball Team has been named ODAC Softball Player of the Week. League officials announced Monday that Kendall Varner has earned this week's award, following Anna Thomas last week and Leanna Toler on April 1.

The sophomore first baseman from Bassett, Virginia wins the award for the second time in her career. She went 8-for-14 (.571) on the week with six extra-base hits, driving in five runs and scoring seven as the Wasps earned splits with Bridgewater College and Shenandoah University. Varner also notched a .625 on-base percentage with a 1.500 slugging average on the week as she drew two walks and stole a pair of bases.

Saturday against the Eagles, Varner went 5-for-8 on the day with four extra-base hits, four RBI and five runs scored. She followed that performance up with three hits on Sunday against the Hornets including a pair of triples, three runs, two walks and a RBI.

For the year, Varner is batting .410 with 11 home runs which is second in the league. Her slugging percentage of .870 and OPS of 1.366 lead the ODAC while she is tied for 10th in the conference with 13 stolen bases.

Emory & Henry (23-13, 13-5 ODAC) remains second in the league with two contests remaining in the regular season. The Wasps will host the No. 19 University of Lynchburg on Saturday at 2:00 p.m., with seeding for next weekend's ODAC Tournament on the line.
