SALEM, Va. – The Emory & Henry College Softball Team (26-16) saw its run in the 2019 Old Dominion Athletic Conference Tournament come to an end just before 11:00 p.m., on Saturday evening. The Wasps dropped a 4-1 decision to top-seeded Virginia Wesleyan University to exit the tournament with a 2-2 record, finishing fourth in postseason play.

Game Eight – #3 Lynchburg 12, #2 Emory & Henry 3
The Wasps dropped a 12-3 decision to the Hornets in their first game of the day. Lynchburg opened the game with two runs in the first and pushed its lead to 6-1 midway through the fourth as Taylor Mabry hit a three-run home run to left field to highlight the frame.
A two-run double to left-center by E&H sophomore first baseman Kendall Varner (Bassett, Va.) closed the gap to 6-3, but the visitors scored six unanswered to take the contest 12-3.
Game Nine – #2 Emory & Henry 4, #8 Shenandoah 2
Emory & Henry picked up a win in the elimination bracket, 4-2 over eighth-seeded Shenandoah University. The Wasps got out to a 1-0 lead early, but the Hornets responded with single runs in the second and fifth to go up 4-2.
E&H put up a three-run sixth highlighted by a go-ahead two-run homer by senior Madison McClanahan (Abingdon, Va.). Senior centerfielder Erin Anderson (Aylett, Va.) also had a RBI-base knock in the frame to tie things up.
Junior Tiffany Cole (Wise, Va.) picked up the win in the circle, scattering two runs on nine hits with two strikeouts over seven innings.
Game Twelve - #1 Virginia Wesleyan 4, #2 Emory & Henry 1
VWU got things started with a run in the bottom of the second as Maria Weddle singled down the left field line, scoring Jessica Lindsay. The Marlins pushed the lead to 4-0 after the sixth, putting up three runs to break things open. Lindsay and Katelyn Biando drove in runs in the inning.
Emory & Henry showed life during its final three outs as junior designated player Alex Thomas (Orlando, Fla.) and junior second baseman Lyndsay Boyd (Abingdon, Va.) hit back-to-back doubles to make the score 4-1. The Wasps got two runners in scoring position with one out but were unable to make any extra noise as the two-time defending national champions moved on to Sunday's action.

As the No. 7-ranked team in the Atlantic Region, Emory & Henry will now await the announcement of the field of teams for the NCAA Division III Tournament which will occur on Monday, May 6.
