FOREST, Va. - Emory & Henry College junior Cameron Derr (Cornelius, N.C.) has been selected as the Old Dominion Athletic Conference Softball Pitcher of the Week, ODAC officials announced Tuesday afternoon. It is the first time in nearly five years that a Wasp pitcher has received weekly honors from the league.
Derr piloted E&H to a 5-0 win in their season opener against No. 15 Birmingham-Southern College on Friday afternoon. She struck out a career-high 14 batters on her way to the shutout, allowing just two hits.
The William A. Hough HS graduate and 2019 All-ODAC Second Team pick also struck out seven in a 3-2 loss to No. 24 DePauw University on Sunday, scattering three runs on six hits across the complete game.
For the year, Derr boasts a 1.40 earned run average with a league-leading 21 strikeouts in 15 innings pitched.
Emory & Henry (2-2, 0-0 ODAC) will return to action on Saturday when it hosts Salem (N.C.) College in a non-conference doubleheader. First pitch between the Wasps and Spirits is scheduled for 1:00 p.m.
