
FOREST, Va. – The No. 9 Emory & Henry College Softball Team has seen three of its players earn a total of four All-Old Dominion Athletic Conference honors, league officials announced Tuesday. It marks the fourth-straight and seventh out of the last eight years that the Wasps have seen multiple players named to the all-conference teams.
Senior pitcher/designated player Alex Braun (Lexington, S.C.) received two All-ODAC First Team nods as a both a pitcher and designated player. Junior left fielder Nicole Cox (Cedar Falls, N.C.) was also named to the all-league first team while sophomore catcher Dacey Jenkins (Knoxville, Tenn.) was selected to the All-ODAC Third Team.
Braun led the Wasps in the circle with 13 wins and one save, pitching 17 complete games with 117 strikeouts and a 2.08 earned run average. She also paced the team at the plate with a .463 batting average, .491 on-base percentage and an .870 slugging average. She posted 50 hits including a nation-leading 20 doubles, a league-leading eight home runs, 31 runs scored and 39 RBI. She posted a 24-game hitting streak to start the year with 17 multi-hit games, 10 multi-RBI games and seven multi-run games.
Cox batted .358, with a .430 on-base percentage. She recorded 25 runs on 34 hits and 11 walks with six doubles, a triple, nine RBI and six stolen bases. She posted a .722 average over a five-game span midway through the season, hitting 13-for-18 with six runs, four RBI and three doubles.
Jenkins hit .375 over the course of the year, with 15 hits, two doubles and three RBI. She put together a .419 on-base percentage with a .425 slugging average. Additionally, she was perfect behind the plate, with a 1.000 fielding percentage in 118 total chances.
Virginia Wesleyan University nearly pulled off a clean sweep of the major awards with Jessica Goldyn being named Player of the Year, Hanna Hull selected pitcher of the Year and Emily Seale tabbed Rookie of the Year. VWU mentor Brandon Elliott was selected as Coach of the Year by his peers. Kayla Hugate of University of Lynchburg was picked as the ODAC/Virginia Farm Bureau Insurance Scholar-Athlete by the league's sports information directors.
Emory & Henry posted a 26-7 record during the course of the season, finishing second during the regular season with a conference mark of 13-3. The Wasps reached the semifinal series of the ODAC Tournament, falling to league runner-up Lynchburg, two games to one. The Wasps currently await the announcement of the 48-team field for this year's NCAA Division III Tournament. The selection show will be streamed on NCAA.com on the afternoon of Monday, May 17.
