Emory & Henry Softball Sweeps Lincoln, 14-1 & 9-1, Saturday At Home

EMORY, Va. – The Emory & Henry College Softball Team (6-2) kept rolling on Saturday picking up a pair of run-rule wins over Lincoln (Pa.) University (0-2). The Wasps won game one by a 14-1 score in five innings and grabbed a 9-1 win in six innings in the nightcap.

With the victory in game one, Head Coach Tommy Forrester became the winningest coach in program history and now has 197 career victories.

Game One – Emory & Henry 14, Lincoln (Pa.) 1 (five innings)
Emory & Henry jumped out to a 7-0 lead in the bottom of the first. Freshman shortstop Lydia Taylor (Salem, Va.) got things going with a three-run home run to right field while senior centerfielder Anna Thomas (Climax, N.C.) had a run-scoring double later in the frame.

In the third, Thomas plated a pair with a single up the middle to run the score to 9-0. In the fourth, sophomore Amy Meister (Mooresville, N.C.) drilled a two-run home run to center field as part of a five-run inning that put the Wasps ahead 14-0.  

Down to their final three outs, the Lions spoiled the shutout as Aniyah Isaac hit a RBI single up the middle for the final 14-1 score.

Sophomore Avery Adkins (Goodview, Va.) picked up the win, throwing four shutout innings as she allowed four hits while striking out five. Tia Brown suffered the loss for Lincoln, giving up nine runs on nine hits in three innings.

Game Two – Emory & Henry 9, Lincoln (Pa.) 1 (six innings)
The Wasps opened up a 2-0 lead in the first as Taylor tagged her second home run of the day. In the fourth, Emory & Henry made it 7-0 with five runs. Freshman outfielders Mackenzie Williams (St. Augustine, Fla.) and Grace Harper (Williamsburg, Va.) had back-to-back run-scoring doubles to highlight the frame.

In the sixth, Lincoln got on the board with an Irlyn Richardson run on an attempted double steal after a strikeout. The Wasps ended the game in the bottom of the sixth as junior right fielder Emily Scaggs (Riner, Va.) hit a RBI single to left-center and junior catcher Dacey Jenkins (Knoxville, Tenn.) was hit by a pitch with the bases loaded.

Freshman Olivia Yates (Floyd, Va.) earned the victory in her first career start, allowing just one unearned run on two hits with four strikeouts. Cate Liskey permitted four runs on six hits in three innings as she suffered the loss.
