Emory & Henry Softball Takes Another Pair From Lincoln, 11-0 & 7-5, Sunday At Home

EMORY, Va. – The Emory & Henry College Softball Team (8-2) picked up another pair of wins over Lincoln (Pa.) University on Sunday afternoon to make it a 4-0 weekend. The Wasps claimed game one, 11-0, in five innings and closed out the series with a 7-5 win in game two.

With the victory in game two, E&H has won 100 games dating back to the start of the 2018 season.

Game One – Emory & Henry 11, Lincoln (Pa.) 0 (five innings)
Emory & Henry surged out to a 9-0 lead after the second inning as senior infielder Hailey Mince (Trinity, N.C.) and junior right fielder Emily Scaggs (Riner, Va.) each hit three-run home runs. Junior second baseman Amanda Koeppe (Pleasant Hill, Calif.) added a solo shot in the inning.

In the fourth, the Wasps pushed another two runs across for the 11-0 final score as Scaggs hit a RBI double to center and Koeppe had a base knock up the middle.

Senior pitcher Anna Thomas (Climax, N.C.) earned the win, scattering two hits and four strikeouts over five innings of shutout softball. Cate Liskey suffered the loss, allowing nine unearned runs on six hits and three walks.

Game Two – Emory & Henry 7, Lincoln (Pa.) 5
The Wasps got on the board in the bottom of the first as freshman catcher Reece Chasteen (Lake City, Fla.) hit a sacrifice fly to centerfield. In the second, E&H pushed the margin to 4-0 on a sacrifice fly by freshman pitcher MaKayla Dowdy (Blacksburg, Va.) and a pair of runs on a throwing error.

Lincoln pushed its first run across in the third as MacKienzee Rasheed drove in Irlynn Richardson with a base hit to right-center.

In the bottom of the third, E&H scored three runs to extend the margin to 7-1. Chasteen hit a solo home run while sophomore right fielder Morgan Silvis (Green Cove Springs, Fla.) had a RBI double down the left field line and junior left fielder Julia Street (Glade Spring, Va.) drew a bases-loaded walk.

The Lions scored four in the top of the fourth to close the gap to 7-5 highlighted by a two-run single by Rasheed. Kevyn Jones and Richardson also had RBI base hits in the frame. Both teams stranded runners in the fifth and sixth before the E&H defense closed things out with a three up-three down seventh.

Dowdy earned the win, allowing one earned run on seven hits and five strikeouts in five innings. Sophomore Avery Adkins (Goodview, Va.) picked up the save, striking out four in two innings. Amaya Townsend suffered the loss, permitting seven runs on three hits and three walks in two-plus innings of work.
