Belmont Abbey Softball Defeats Emory & Henry, 6-0, Tuesday, Game Two Washed Out

EMORY, Va. – The Belmont Abbey College Softball Team (11-0) picked up a 6-0 win over Emory & Henry College (8-3) Tuesday afternoon. The second game of the doubleheader called off after the second inning with E&H leading 2-0 due to rain.

Game One – Belmont Abbey 6, Emory & Henry 0
Belmont Abbey got out to a 3-0 lead in the third on a three-run homer by Payton Whitley. The Crusaders made it a 5-0 contest on a two-run shot by Cameron Cooper to right-centerfield in the top of the fifth.

BAC capped the scoring in the top of the seventh on a single through the left side by Kellee Branham which scored Hallie Mele from first base.

Abby Craver earned the win for the Crusaders, allowing just four hits while striking out seven. E&H sophomore Avery Adkins (Goodview, Va.) suffered the loss with six runs on eight hits and three strikeouts across six innings.

Game Two – Emory & Henry 2, Belmont Abbey 0 (game abandoned after second inning)
E&H broke open a scoreless contest in the bottom of the second as fifth-year third baseman Allyson Steadman (Kingsport, Tenn.) drilled a two-run home run over the centerfield fence.

Rain began to fall soon after the score and it was determined by the coaches and umpires that there would not be a window to complete the contest.

Up Next
Emory & Henry will compete in the King Invitational this weekend on the campus of King (Tenn.) University. The Wasps will face the Tornado and the Royals of Queens University of Charlotte on both Friday and Saturday in a "split-doubleheader" format.

E&H's schedule for Friday sees the Wasps play King at 11:00 a.m. and Queens at 1:00 p.m. The Saturday schedule will have Emory & Henry playing Queens at 1:00 p.m. and King at 3:00 p.m.
