No. 14 Lincoln Memorial Softball Sweeps Emory & Henry, 9-1 & 8-3, Wednesday Afternoon

HARROGATE, Tenn. – The No. 14 Lincoln Memorial University Softball Team (17-5) picked up a pair of wins against future South Atlantic Conference foe Emory & Henry College (10-7) Wednesday. The Lady Railsplitters, who are ranked 14th in NCAA Division II by the National Fastpitch Coaches Association, won the contests by scores of 9-1 and 8-3.

Game One – No. 14 Lincoln Memorial 9, Emory & Henry 1 (six innings)
LMU opened the game with a solo home run by Sierra Hucklebee in the bottom of the first. The Lady Railsplitters made it 2-0 after two thanks to a sacrifice fly by Sami West and ran their lead to 4-0 with two runs in the third.

Emory & Henry got on the board in the fourth when senior centerfielder Anna Thomas (Climax, N.C.) scored on a throwing error by the shortstop.

A RBI triple by Kelsie Tuggle and a two-run home run by Katie Tuggle in the fifth made it a 7-1 contest and Lincoln Memorial ended the game in the sixth as Hucklebee hit her second home run of the game and McKenzie Henry doubled to left field.

Emma Frost earned the win for LMU, allowing just one unearned run on five hits with nine strikeouts. E&H sophomore Avery Adkins (Goodview, Va.) suffered the loss, permitting six runs on nine hits with two strikeouts in 4.1 innings of work.

Game Two – No. 14 Lincoln Memorial 8, Emory & Henry 3
The Wasps got out to a 2-0 lead in the top of the first thanks to a RBI by sophomore catcher Morgan Silvis (Green Cove Springs, Fla.) and a base hit by junior right fielder Emily Scaggs (Riner, Va.).

LMU tied things up with single runs in the first and second but E&H bounced back with another RBI single by Scaggs in the third for a 3-2 advantage.

The Lady Railsplitters answered in the bottom of the frame with a base hit by Henry and scored four in the fourth and one in the fifth for the final 8-3 score. Maddie Haskins highlighted the fourth inning with a two-run double.

Delilah Malczewski got the complete-game win, scattering three runs on seven hits with three strikeouts. Wasp freshman Olivia Yates (Floyd, Va.) took the loss, allowing six earned runs on seven hits in 3.2 innings.

Emory & Henry will continue its eight-game roadtrip on Saturday when it visits Claflin University. First pitch is scheduled for 1:00 p.m.
