Florida Tech Softball Tops Emory & Henry Twice Tuesday Afternoon

MELBOURNE, Fla. – The Florida Institute of Technology Softball Team (19-8) earned a pair of wins against Emory & Henry College (12-9) Tuesday. The Panthers claimed the series by scores of 13-5 and 14-2.

Game One – Florida Tech 13, Emory & Henry 5 (five innings)
The Panthers got out to a 2-0 lead in the bottom of the first inning as Mikayla Lewin and Chloe French had RBI base hits. Emory & Henry responded with five runs in the second. Sophomore catcher Morgan Silvis (Green Cove Springs, Fla.) hit a two run home run to get things started and freshman shortstop Lydia Taylor (Salem, Va.) plated a pair with a double to left-center for the 5-2 advantage.

In the bottom of the second, FIT tied things up on a bases-clearing double by Lewin. The Panthers added three runs in the fourth and another five scores in the fifth to end the game, 13-5. Victoria Szrom had a two-run homer in the fifth to highlight the frame.

Allison Platon earned the win for the Panthers in relief, allowing no runs on two hits and three strikeouts in three innings of work. Wasp sophomore Avery Adkins (Goodview, Va.) took the loss with 10 runs eight hits.

Game Two – Florida Tech 14, Emory & Henry 2 (five innings)
E&H opened the game as Taylor and junior right fielder Emily Scaggs (Riner, Va.) drove in runs in the first for a 2-0 lead. Florida Tech went ahead, 3-2, in the bottom half of the frame as Lewin and French each had RBI base hits.

The Panthers added two runs in the second and broke the contest open with a seven-run third, 12-2. Ashley Campbell plated a pair with a double to left field while Lewin notched a three-run home run. FIT scored another two insurance runs in the fourth for the 14-2 final score.

Samantha Guider picked up the win for the Panthers, scattering two runs on five hits with three strikeouts over five innings. E&H senior Anna Thomas (Climax, N.C.) allowed six runs on six hits in two-plus innings of action.
