EMORY, Va. – The Emory & Henry College Softball Team (9-8) grabbed a pair of non-conference shutouts over visiting Bluefield University (3-9) Thursday afternoon. The Wasps won game one by a 7-0 margin and grabbed the run-rule 11-0 victory to close out the day.

Game One – Emory & Henry 7, Bluefield 0
E&H jumped out to a 3-0 lead in the bottom of the first. Junior pitcher Avery Adkins (Goodview, Va.) got things started with a double down the left field line to drive in freshman left fielder Kylie Cundiff (Roanoke, Va.). Freshman third baseman Abigail Street (Glade Spring, Va.) added two more with a base knock to left-center.
In the fifth, Street was hit by a pitch with the bases loaded to make it a 4-0 contest. Two batters later, freshman shortstop Rachel Hill (Stanardsville, Va.) cleared the bases with a double to center, making it 7-0.
The Wasps' defense was stellar all game, as Adkins took a perfect game into the sixth inning. She completed the shutout with just one hit and six strikeouts, facing just one batter more than the minimum. Hallie Cox took the loss, allowing seven runs on seven hits with five strikeouts.
Game Two – Emory & Henry 11, Bluefield 0 (five innings)
Emory & Henry got on the board early for the second game as well with Street singling through the left side, plating Cundiff. In the second, the Wasps plated four runs with four straight two-out base hits including doubles from Cundiff, sophomore centerfielder Mackenzie Williams (St. Augustine, Fla.) and sophomore first baseman Lydia Taylor (Salem, Va.).
E&H added two in the third to make it a 7-0 contest highlighted by freshman third baseman Ashlyn Rachon's (Greeneville, Tenn.) double to left-center.
The Wasps pushed four more across in the fourth to eclipse the eight-run barrier and set the stage for an early end to the contest. Street, Hill and Silvis each posted RBI doubles in the frame as Emory & Henry capped the scoring, 11-0.
Sophomore right-hander MaKayla Dowdy (Blacksburg, Va.) scattered four hits and four strikeouts with no walks to earn the shutout. MacKenzie Franklin suffered the loss, allowing six earned runs on 14 hits with two walks.
