Limestone Softball Wins Twice Over Emory & Henry, 8-2 & 6-4, In SAC Finale Saturday

GAFFNEY, S.C. – The Limestone University Softball Team (23-19, 8-14 SAC) picked up a pair of South Atlantic Conference wins over visiting Emory & Henry College (17-22, 8-16 SAC) on Saturday afternoon. The Saints took the doubleheader by scores of 8-2 and 6-4, mathematically eliminating the Wasps from SAC Tournament contention.

Game One – Limestone 8, Emory & Henry 2
E&H got out to a 1-0 lead in the top of the first as junior centerfielder Mackenzie Williams (St. Augustine, Fla.) crossed the plate on a double steal. The Saints responded to take the lead 2-1 in the bottom of the frame with an infield single by Madison Vinicombe and a sacrifice fly by Linsey Voorhese.

Limestone extended its lead to 4-1 after two, highlighted by a triple by Emma Wren. In the fourth, Vinicombe plated a pair as part of a four-run inning, making the score 8-1. The Wasps got one back in the top of the sixth as junior first baseman Lydia Taylor (Salem, Va.) hit a solo home run for the final 8-2 score.

Chelsey Stonesifer earned the complete-game victory, scattering one earned run on four hits with eight strikeouts. E&H sophomore Kylie Cundiff (Roanoke, Va.) took the loss, allowing seven runs on 12 hits in three innings of work.

Game Two – Limestone 6, Emory & Henry 4
The Saints opened the scoring in the bottom of the first on a sacrifice fly by Vinicombe. Emory & Henry pushed four across in the top of the second highlighted by a two-run double by Williams. Junior right fielder Danielle King (Spencer, Va.) and senior catcher Morgan Silvis (Green Cove Springs, Fla.) each added RBI singles in the frame.

A solo home run by Limestone's Jaylin Adkins and a pair of bases-loaded walks in the fourth tied the contest at four runs apiece. The Saints took the lead in the fifth on a single down the right field line by Faith Calloway and capped the scoring in the sixth as Voorhese hit a solo shot to left.

E&H loaded the bases in the top of the seventh but the rally fell short and Limestone came away with the 6-4 win.

Breanna Clayton went the distance in the win, allowing four runs on eight hits with nine strikeouts despite seven walks. Wasp freshman Destiny Good (Staunton, Va.) suffered the loss in relief, permitting two runs on four hits in 2.2 innings pitched.

Emory & Henry concludes the season on Sunday, hosting King (Tenn.) University at 1:00 p.m. The Wasps will celebrate Senior Day prior to the start of game one.
