Randolph-Macon Women’s Basketball Defeats Emory & Henry, 82-66, Saturday In ODAC Play

EMORY, Va. – The Randolph-Macon College Women's Basketball Team (5-4, 3-3 ODAC) came away with an 82-66 win over Emory & Henry College (1-6, 0-5 ODAC) in Old Dominion Athletic Conference action Saturday afternoon at the John Rutledge King Center.

The two teams battled back and forth early in the first half and Randolph-Macon was only able to get a lead of more than six points after nearly nine minutes of play (18-12 at 11:21). The Yellow Jackets would go on to lead by nine points on two occasions before the Wasps cut the margin to eight before the half.

After the break, R-MC found themselves up 53-41 after a 10-5 run that covered 1:55 in the middle of the half. E&H responded and scored nine of the next 11 points to cut the lead to five (57-52). After the Yellow Jackets extended the lead to 14 with 4:09 to play, the Wasps mounted another furious rally to trim the lead to six (70-64) thanks to a 10-2 run. Randolph-Macon scored its last 10 points from the free throw line, going 10-for-12 during the stretch for the victory.

The Yellow Jackets were led by Maggie Roy with 22 points, six rebounds, four assists and three steals. Sarah Parsons posted 17 points and a game-high six steals while Taylor Wieczorek and Lindsey Sharman had 13 and 10 points, respectively. Jillian Asay (11) and Kellie Cortina (10) reached double digits in rebounds for Randolph-Macon as well.

Emory & Henry was paced by freshman center Carlyta Hamm (Wytheville, Va.) with her first career double-double. Hamm had 12 points, 10 rebounds and two blocks on the day as she went six-for-11 from the field.

Freshman guard Michelle Williams (Stokesdale, N.C.) had a team-high 17 points for the Wasps, hitting five three pointers on the day and added eight rebounds. Freshman guard Kristie Langley (Staley, N.C.) and sophomore forward JoBeth Wright (Mooresville, N.C.) had 15 and 12 points, respectively, for Emory & Henry.

Emory & Henry outshot Randolph-Macon by a 36.2 (25-for-69) to 35.4 (28-for-79) percent margin but the Yellow Jackets held the advantage on the glass (55-46) and turnovers (11-21).

E&H will travel to Harrisonburg, Va., next Friday evening when it will take on Eastern Mennonite University. Tipoff is set for 7:00 p.m.
