Bridgewater Women’s Basketball Holds Off Emory & Henry Rally, 56-46, Saturday In ODAC Play

BRIDGEWATER, Va. – The Bridgewater College Women's Basketball Team (7-5, 5-4 ODAC) took advantage of a hot start as it defeated Emory & Henry College (1-8, 0-7 ODAC), 56-46, Saturday afternoon at Nininger Hall in Old Dominion Athletic Conference action.

The Eagles jumped out to a 12-0 lead 4:56 into the contest and would lead by as much as 23 (27-4 at 6:39) in the first half. Emory & Henry went on an 8-0 run to end the first half and close the gap to 31-17.

After the break, Bridgewater kept control and pushed its lead back to 21 with 7:53 remaining. The Wasps then went on an 11-0 run to cut the Eagles' lead to 10 (51-41) 1:11 to go but weren't able to get any closer before the end of the contest.

Bridgewater was led by Jessica Mullen with 13 points, four assists and four steals. Holly Morgan added nine points and five boards while Jenny Logan had six points and seven rebounds. The Eagles shot 39.0 percent (23-for-59) for the game and held a 48-39 advantage on the boards.

Emory & Henry was paced by freshman guard Kristie Langley (Staley, N.C.) as she tied her career high with 18 points and shattered her prior best of seven rebounds, pulling down 13 boards in the contest. Sophomore forward JoBeth Wright (Mooresville, N.C.) had nine points and three steals while senior forward Ashlyn Baird (Boone, N.C.) posted seven points and four rebounds.

The Wasps will travel to Greensboro, North Carolina on Tuesday to take on the Quakers of Guilford College in an ODAC contest. Guilford defeated Emory & Henry 62-45 in the first meeting between the schools.
