VIRGINIA BEACH, Va. - The Virginia Wesleyan College Women's Basketball Team (15-4, 12-2 ODAC) stayed alive in the race for the Old Dominion Athletic Conference crown with a 74-50 win over visiting Emory & Henry College Friday evening at The Batten Center.

The two teams fought back and forth for the first five and a half minutes of the game to a 7-all tie. Virginia Wesleyan then reeled off 10-straight points over a three-minute span to lead 17-7. The Marlins would lead by as much as 11 in the first half, but a 6-2 run by the Wasps to go into halftime closed the gap to 32-27.

After the break, VWC exploded with a 13-2 run for a 45-29 lead with 14:30 on the clock. Later in the half, the Marlins went on a 21-8 run to lead by 30 points (69-39). Emory & Henry was able to cut the margin down, with an 11-5 scoring spurt of its own to close the game for the 74-50 final margin.

Virginia Wesleyan put together balanced scoring on the night as six players scored eight or more points. Sarah Seipp was the Marlins' leading scorer with 11 points and added five rebounds and three steals. Kristen Blalock also reached double figures in scoring with 10 on the night. VWC forced E&H into 24 turnovers and had 24 offensive rebounds which helped to offset 46.2 percent (12-for-26) shooting from the free throw line.

Freshman guard Kristie Langley (Staley, N.C.) led all scorers with 15 points for the Wasps, going seven-for-13 from the floor. Freshman center Carlyta Hamm (Wytheville, Va.) had seven points on the night and pulled down a game-high 12 rebounds. Emory & Henry made the most of only 12 free throw attempts on the day, connecting on 10 of them.

E&H will remain on the road tomorrow afternoon when it travels to Ashland, Virginia to face Randolph-Macon College. Tipoff for the ODAC contest will be at 2:00 p.m.
