Randolph-Macon Women’s Basketball Downs Emory & Henry, 77-58, Saturday Afternoon

ASHLAND, Va. – The Randolph-Macon College Women's Basketball Team (12-9, 10-6 ODAC) picked up a 77-58 victory over visiting Emory & Henry College (2-14, 1-13 ODAC) Saturday afternoon at Crenshaw Gymnasium. E&H freshman guard Kristie Langley (Staley, N.C.) scored a career-high 25 points for the Wasps despite the loss.

Randolph-Macon got out to a 13-4 lead in the first 4:36 of the first half and never looked back, leading by as much as 16 in the opening period. The Wasps, however, outscored the Yellow Jackets 18-9 down the stretch, to go into the locker room down 35-28.

After the break, R-MC got its lead back to double digits quickly, but E&H was able to stay in the fight. With 9:24 left on the clock, the Yellow Jackets went on an 11-2 run covering 3:07 to break the contest open. Randolph-Macon would lead by as much as 22 in the closing moments of the game to come away with the 77-58 win.

The Yellow Jackets were paced by Maggie Roy with 19 points and four rebounds. Molly Brown tallied 18 points and seven rebounds while Sarah Parsons had 16 points and seven boards of her own. Taylor Wieczorek pitched in 14 points of her own in the contest. As a team, Randolph-Macon shot 38.7 percent (24-for-62) from the floor and connected on eight three-pointers. The Yellow Jackets also out-rebounded the Wasps by a 48-35 margin with 21 offensive boards.

Langley was the shining star for Emory & Henry with 24 points on 11-for-15 shooting.  She added five rebounds, two assists and two steals on the day. Freshman guard Valerie Beale (Greensboro, N.C.) and freshman center Carlyta Hamm (Wytheville, Va.) had nine points each while Hamm pulled down a team-high seven rebounds.

Emory & Henry will return home on Tuesday evening for an Old Dominion Athletic Conference contest against Roanoke College. Tipoff is set for 7:00 p.m. The contest will also feature the Wasps' annual Play4Kay game, with all money raised going to support the Kay Yow Cancer Fund.
