Lynchburg Women’s Basketball Takes Care Of Emory & Henry, 80-53, Friday Night In ODAC Play

LYNCHBURG, Va. – The Lynchburg College Women's Basketball Team (8-14, 7-10 ODAC) scored 35 points off of 25 Emory & Henry College turnovers, en route to winning 80-53 Friday night in Old Dominion Athletic Conference action. E&H (2-16, 1-15 ODAC) dropped its sixth straight contest with the loss.

The Wasps and Hornets battled back and forth to an eight-all tie at the 14:43 mark of the first half. From that point, Lynchburg seized control and opened up a 36-20 lead with a 28-12 run spanning 13:19, and took a 38-23 lead into the locker room.

After the break, Lynchburg built its lead to 22 (47-25) in the opening 3:28 of the second half. Emory & Henry would cut the margin to 16 on two occasions, but would get no closer as the Hornets posted a 13-2 run for a 68-41 advantage.

LC would lead by as much as 29 (80-51) in the final minute of the contest before a basket by E&H to make the final margin 80-53.

Lynchburg had four players reach double figures in scoring, led by Shannon Allan with 14 points and 10 rebounds to complete the double-double. Caitlin Falls tallied 11 points on the night while Carly Greenlief and Roslyn Alexander each posted 10 points on the night. As a team, Lynchburg shot 48.0 percent (36-for-75) from the field and held a 43-26 rebounding advantage. The Hornets also had 24 offensive rebounds compared to just seven for the Wasps.

Emory & Henry freshman guard Michelle Williams (Stokesdale, N.C.) led all scorers with 18 points, hitting three treys on the night. Sophomore forward JoBeth Wright (Mooresville, N.C.) chipped in 11 points of her own while freshman center Carlyta Hamm (Wytheville, Va.) had eight points and a team-high five rebounds.

The Wasps will remain in Lynchburg tomorrow as they visit the WildCats of Randolph College. Tipoff in the ODAC contest is scheduled for 4:00 p.m.
