Emory & Henry’s Michelle Williams Named ODAC Women’s Basketball Player Of The Week

FOREST, Va. – Emory & Henry College sophomore guard Michelle Williams has been selected as the Old Dominion Athletic Conference Women's Basketball Player of the Week, ODAC officials announced Monday. It is the second time in as many weeks that an E&H player has earned weekly honors from the league.

The Stokesdale, N.C., native came off the bench to lead Emory & Henry to a 2-0 week with wins over Southern Virginia University (78-67) and Covenant College (97-70). Williams put up 19 points against the Knights on Wednesday, hitting a trio of three-pointers and grabbing four rebounds.

Saturday evening, Williams tied the Emory & Henry record for three-point baskets made in a game with nine. She finished the game with a career-high 31 points, the most since Kelly Smith set the school record with 36 points against Bridgewater on Feb. 3, 2001.

The Wasps have won four straight games for the first time since late in the 2008-09 season and are atop the ODAC standings with a 2-0 record.

In eight games this season, Williams has scored in double-figures seven times and is averaging a team-leading 17.4 points per game. She is second in the ODAC in scoring and has made 32 three-point baskets to lead the league.

Emory & Henry (5-3, 2-0 ODAC) will be on the road this weekend for a pair of non-conference contests. The Wasps will face the Griffins of Gwynedd-Mercy College on Saturday at 2:00 p.m., and will take on the Bulldogs of DeSales University Sunday at 3:00 p.m.
