EMORY, Va. – The Washington and Lee University Women's Basketball Team (5-4, 2-1 ODAC) used a 9-0 run midway through the second half to get past Emory & Henry College (5-6, 2-1 ODAC), 60-49, Thursday evening at the John Rutledge King Center.

Up by one at the 12:45 mark of the first half, the Generals went on an 8-0 run to take a 16-7 lead. E&H responded with an 8-0 run of its own over the next 2:26, closing the gap to 16-15. The two squads then traded baskets for the remainder of the period with W&L going into the break with a 24-20 advantage.

After the intermission, Emory & Henry trimmed the lead back to a single point on three separate occasions before Washington and Lee scored nine-straight points for the first double-digit lead of the game (42-32 with 9:05 remaining). The Wasps cut the lead to six, but the Generals responded, pushing the margin to 12 points. E&H got within eight (53-40) in the last 100 seconds, but W&L was able to hold off any rally as it went on to win, 60-49.

The Generals were led by Katy Wilson as she posted a game-high 20 points and added nine rebounds, four assists and three steals. Shelbi Hendricks had 14 points while Paige Corvino and Wesleigh Vick chipped in eight points apiece with Vick pulling down nine boards.

For the game, W&L shot 42.6 percent (20-for-47) and hit 18-of-27 free throw attempts. The Generals also won the battle of the boards, 44-39, despite being forced into 22 turnovers.

Emory & Henry sophomore guard Kristie Langley (Staley, N.C.) had a team-high 16 points with four rebounds, two assists and two steals while sophomore center Carlyta Hamm (Wytheville, Va.) added 12 points and six rebounds in 15 minutes off the bench. Junior forward JoBeth Wright (Mooresville, N.C.) had six points, a game-high 11 rebounds, four steals and two assists.

As a team, the Wasps shot 30.9 percent (21-for-68) from the floor and hit just 3-of-13 attempts from beyond the arc. E&H outscored W&L, 36-20, in the paint and had 15 steals in the contest.

Emory & Henry will return to the court on Saturday when it faces Bridgewater College in Old Dominion Athletic Conference action. The Wasps and Eagles are set to tip off at 4:00 p.m. as the second game of a doubleheader with the E&H men's team.
