ROANOKE, Va. – The Emory & Henry College Women's Basketball Team (6-7, 3-2 ODAC) rallied from a 12-point second-half deficit to defeat Hollins University (3-9, 0-5 ODAC) by a 72-70 score in Old Dominion Athletic Conference action Wednesday evening. The victory snaps a four-game skid for the Wasps and moves them back above .500 in the league.

Junior forward JoBeth Wright (Mooresville, N.C.) hit the game-winning layup on an inbounds play from sophomore guard Jalan McPherson (Jonesville, Va.) with four seconds remaining. Hollins had a shot at the buzzer to tie, but the basket was waved off by the officials as the clock had already expired.

Hollins got out to a 16-9 lead at the 13:10 mark of the first half. The green-and-gold held the margin until the Wasps went on a 9-3 run, culminated by a three-pointer by sophomore guard Kristie Langley (Staley, N.C.). HU would push the lead back to six (32-26) and took a 32-28 advantage into the break.

After the intermission, Hollins started off on a 10-4 run to stretch its lead to 42-30 with 15:51 on the clock. Down 50-39, E&H went on a 19-8 run to tie the contest at 58 on a three-pointer by sophomore guard Michelle Williams (Stokesdale, N.C.) with 6:26 to go.

The two squads would trade baskets down the stretch with Emory & Henry going up by four on a free throw by freshman forward Karina Farr (Graham, Wash.). A basket and a pair of free throws by Hollins tied the contest at 70 with 13 seconds remaining, setting up E&H for a final play. The Wasps ended up with an inbounds play under the basket, which gave Wright her opportunity for last-second heroics and the victory.

Emory & Henry was led offensively by Williams with 19 points as she went 8-for-12 from the field with two assists and two blocks. Farr finished the night with 13 points, nine rebounds and three assists while Langley had 12 points and three boards. Wright added nine points, including the game-winner.

For the game, the Wasps shot 43.3 percent (26-for-60) from the field with 17 assists, despite being out-rebounded, 38-31.

Jasmine Greene paced Hollins with a game-high 22 points, adding eight rebounds, three assists and two steals. Chanci Wrigtht had 11 points and 10 boards while Ella Oakley chipped in 10 points of her own.

E&H will return to Bob Johnson Court on Saturday to take on Randolph-Macon College in ODAC action. Tipoff is set for 4:00 p.m.
