Emory & Henry’s Kristie Langley Named Academic All-District

AUSTIN, Texas – Emory & Henry College has seen one of its women’s basketball players named to the 2012-13 NCAA Division III Capital One/CoSIDA Academic All-District V Team, CoSIDA officials announced Thursday. CoSIDA is the College Sports Information Directors of America.

Sophomore guard Kristie Langley (Staley, N.C.) has been selected to the Academic All-District First Team, and is now eligible for Academic All-America® honors. She is the only player from the Old Dominion Athletic Conference to earn Academic All-District accolades and the first Emory & Henry player in over 10 years to be selected.

“I’m very proud of Kristie for earning such a prestigious award,” said Head Women’s Basketball Coach Rose Katz. “She is the embodiment of a Division III student-athlete. Her work ethic is evident in her dedication to basketball and her studies. She leads by example on and off the court and is the kind of player every coach wants to have on their team.”

Langley, a graduate of Providence Grove High School, is averaging 11.3 points, 4.4 rebounds and 2.1 assists per game so far this season. She has scored in double figures in 11 of the Wasps’ 19 games including a career-high 29 points against Delaware Valley College on November 17. She has made 21 three-point field goals and has 23 steals to her credit. Langley is a 4.0 student, majoring in biology with an emphasis on pre-medicine.

Emory & Henry is currently 7-12 on the season with a 4-7 mark in ODAC play. The Wasps have already won more contests than they did in the previous two seasons combined and are on track to host the First Round of the 2013 ODAC Tournament.

“I’m really glad that Kristie is part of our program. She has done great things thus far on the court and in the classroom and I only expect to see more of the same in the future,” added Katz.

CoSIDA's Academic All-America® program has recognized student-athletes for their accomplishments on the field and in the classroom for over 50 years. CoSIDA members nominate and vote in selection of Academic All-District and All-America performers in 12 sport categories across all divisions of college athletics.
