EMORY, Va. – The Apprentice School's Women's Basketball Team (9-3) used a 45-point second half en route to defeating Emory & Henry College (2-9) by a 71-65 score Saturday afternoon at Bob Johnson Court inside the John Rutledge King Center.

The Lady Builders jumped out to an 8-0 lead at the 16:52 mark of the first half but the Wasps responded with a 20-4 run to for a 20-12 advantage with 8:48 on the clock. Down by six with 91 seconds to go before the break, The Apprentice School scored seven of the final nine points of the first half for a 30-29 Emory & Henry lead at the intermission.

The two squads battled back and forth for the first moments of the second half but a 9-0 run covering 2:59 by the Lady Builders gave them a 46-36 lead at the 13:19 mark. Six straight points by E&H trimmed the margin to four (46-42) but The Apprentice School stayed just out of reach. The Wasps got within four points again with 21 seconds remaining, but the Lady Builders hit their free throws to preserve the win.

Courtney Collins led The Apprentice School with 18 points, five rebounds and three steals off the bench. Kenya Wilkerson notched 15 points, seven rebounds, five assists and seven steals while April McCoy notched 11 points and six boards. Julissa Riddick had a game-high 13 rebounds to go along with four points and four steals.

As a team, the Lady Builders shot just 38.9 percent (28-for-72) from the floor and held a 50-30 advantage on points in the paint. The Apprentice School forced 28 turnovers, committing just 18 miscues of its own.

Emory & Henry was paced by freshman guard Megan Jacoby (Richmond, Va.) with 15 points six rebounds, six assists and five steals. Sophomore forward Karina Farr (Graham, Wash.) had 13 points and seven rebounds while junior guard Kristie Langley (Staley, N.C.) notched 13 points and three boards. Senior forward JoBeth Wright (Mooresville, N.C.) added eight rebounds while sophomore guard Anna Green (Raleigh, N.C.) and sophomore center Amanda Stanley (Mooresville, N.C.) tallied eight points each.

The Wasps were 21-for-57 (36.8%) on field goal attempts, hitting five three-pointers. E&H also won the battle at the free throw line, converting 18-of-27 (66.7%) chances.

Emory & Henry will remain at home on Tuesday when its hosts Salem College. Tipoff between the Wasps and Spirits is set for 7:00 p.m.
