EMORY, Va. – The Emory & Henry College Women's Basketball Team (3-10, 1-3 ODAC) got its first home victory of the year Saturday afternoon as it defeated Washington and Lee University (3-8, 1-4 ODAC) in a rout, 61-36. The victory was the Wasps' first over the Generals since February 22, 2008, when E&H came away with an 82-81 win.
Emory & Henry got out to a 12-3 lead at the 12:51 mark of the first half and never looked back as it led the entire game. Up by an 18-11 score with 4:16 before the intermission, the Wasps scored the final 10 points of the half to go into the locker room with a 28-11 advantage.
Coming out of the break, E&H kept the pressure on and quickly extended its lead to 23 (39-16). The Generals cut the deficit to 45-29 with 9:24 on the clock, but a 12-0 run that put the Wasps up 57-29 doused any hopes of a comeback. Each of Emory & Henry's 14 players saw action in the game as they rolled to the 25-point win.
Junior guard Kristie Langley (Staley, N.C.) had a game-high 18 points and added four rebounds and three steals for E&H. Sophomore forward Karina Farr (Graham, Wash.) notched her second double-double of the year, tallying 17 points, 10 boards and four steals. Senior forward JoBeth Wright (Mooresville, N.C.) had 10 points, eight rebounds and three assists while sophomore center Amanda Stanley (Mooresville, N.C.) had six points and seven boards.
Emory & Henry shot just 32.9 percent (24-for-73) from the field for the game but led the battle for points in the paint, 32-12. The Wasps forced the Generals into 24 miscues with 16 steals, and held a 28-6 advantage on points off turnovers.
Washington and Lee did not see any of its players reach double figures in scoring but Wesleigh Vick put up nine points and pulled down a game-high 12 rebounds. Annie Gauf had eight points, three rebounds, two assists and two steals while Shelbi Hendricks chipped in seven points off the bench.
E&H will remain at home on Wednesday for the final contest of its four-game homestand. The Wasps will host the Maroons of Roanoke College for an ODAC contest at 7:00 p.m.
