FOREST, Va. –Emory & Henry College has seen one of its women’s basketball players selected as the ODAC/Farm Bureau Insurance Scholar-Athlete of the Year. Junior guard Kristie Langley (Staley, N.C.) becomes the first Wasp in program history to be picked as the season’s top student-athlete in ODAC women’s basketball.
The award was voted on by the sports information directors of the league’s 14 schools and was presented along with the All-Old Dominion Athletic Conference season awards at Wednesday evening’s banquet. The banquet is held annually at the Salem Civic Center in conjunction with the ODAC Tournament.
Langley, a graduate of Providence Grove High School, led the team in scoring this year with 11.3 points and added 5.2 rebounds, 1.2 assists and 1.2 steals per game. She has scored in double figures in 16 games including a season-high 23 points against the College of Mount Saint Vincent on December 19. She made a team-high 26 three-point field goals and led the squad with at 73.8 percent (45-of-61) from the free throw line.
A 4.0 student, majoring in biology with an emphasis on pre-medicine, Langley has also been named to the Capital One Academic All-District V First Team for the past two years. She is the only player from the ODAC to have earned Academic All-District® honors in either of the past two seasons.
