Megan Jacoby Ranked Fifth Nationally In Assists And Additional Categories

Emory, Va. - The Emory & Henry women’s basketball team has jumped out to a promising record to start the heart of the ODAC season. At 6-5, the Wasps have already matched their win total from last season. E&H is off to a good start thanks to their high scoring numbers, as well as their league-leading 12.7 steals and +7.36 turnover margin. Coach Anne Crutchfield stated, “The new system is productive. It shows we’re making good decisions with the ball. It is evident that we are starting to pick up intensity on the defensive end.”

The increase in points, assists, and steals, is thanks in part to starting point guard, sophomore, Megan Jacoby. Jacoby has been a force so far this season. Her 6.2 assists per game and 3.5 steals per game are tops in the ODAC. About leading the conference in the two crucial areas, “It is exciting! I hope I can keep it up.” When asked about how she has improved so much this season opposed from her freshman year, Jacoby explained, “I am a little more confident this year. This new system of high pressure defense allows me to get steals. And our up-tempo offense allows the team to get more assists.”

The sophomore from Richmond, VA has been running the team like an upperclassman all season long. In a game against Warren Wilson, Jacoby dished out a school-record 14 assists with only 1 turnover. She has tallied 8 or more assists in four separate contests. Coach Crutchfield stated, “Megan is the epitome of what you want in a point guard. She has great court vision, she is great in transition, and she is a coach on the floor. She is incredibly tough, physically and mentally.”

Nationally, Megan Jacoby is working her way up the leaderboard. She is currently 5th in the NCAA in assists. And Jacoby is 18th in assist to turnover ratio at 2.34. Jacoby also ranks 27th in steals per game. Her 14 assist game is tied for the highest single game mark in the 2014-15 season. About her national accomplishments, “I’m excited. The team is shooting well and finishing well. Without them it wouldn’t be possible. I have to give credit to my teammates.”

The Wasps take on Averett University tonight at 7 p.m. in the John Rutledge King Center.
