No. 23 Pikeville Claims Comfort Inn Holiday Tournament Crown With 103-68 Win Over Emory & Henry Sunday

EMORY, Va. – The University of Pikeville Women's Basketball Team ran its season record to 14-0 win a 103-68 victory over Emory & Henry College (8-2) Sunday afternoon in the 2016 Comfort Inn Holiday Tournament at the John Rutledge King Center. The Bears are the No. 23-ranked team in NAIA Division I.

The two teams traded baskets through the first 3:08 of the contest to an 8-8 tie. UPike scored seven in a row to lead 15-8 and pushed their advantage to 28-12 at the end of the first period. The Bears kept the pressure on in the second stanza, outscoring the Wasps 29-10 for a 57-22 halftime advantage.

Emory & Henry did not go away however, and cut the lead to 31 (78-47) with 46 seconds to play in the third after Pikeville extended their margin to 66-26 early in the period. The Wasps continued to chip away at the lead, getting to within 28 in the opening minute of the fourth and down to 27 (91-64) with 3:20 left on the clock. UPike finished the game on a 12-4 run to get their lead back to 35 points, 103-68. It marked the eighth-time this season that the Bears have reached the century mark on the scoreboard.

Pikeville saw five players reach double figures, led by Kelah Eldridge, who scored 21 points on seven-for-nine shooting from beyond the arc, earning Tournament MVP honors. Dinyell Calvert had 20 points off the bench while Aundrea Matchen added 19 points and six rebounds. Devin Conley (All-Tournament) scored 16 points and pulled down six boards and Kandice Porter pitched in 10 points.

As a team, the Bears shot 57.1 percent from the field (40-for-70), hitting 14 three-pointers. UPike held a 44-25 rebounding advantage when they converted to 13 second-chance points. Pikeville also scored 22 points off of 18 E&H turnovers including 16 on the fast break.

Emory & Henry was led by freshman guard Taylor Blevins (Abingdon, Va.) with a tournament-high 28 points on nine-for-11 shooting. She added 10 rebounds to complete the double-double and earn All-Tournament accolades. Freshman guard Jada Penn (Radford, Va.) had eight points off the bench while junior guards Megan Jacoby (Richmond, Va.) and Asja Jenkins (Richmond, Va.) and senior forward Tamara Brewster (Morrow, Ga.) pitched in six points each. Jacoby added four rebounds and four assists and was named to the All-Tournament team.

The Wasps were 25-for-60 (41.7%) for the game, including a 58.1 percent (18-for-31) clip in the second half. E&H hit 15 of its 20 free throws and scored 40 points in the paint.

Also named to the All-Tournament team were Laniqua Collins from Agnes Scott College and Kenyata Harris from North Carolina Wesleyan College.

Emory & Henry will return to Old Dominion Athletic Conference play on Wednesday evening at 7:00 p.m., when it hosts Hollins University.
