Emory & Henry Women’s Basketball Powers By Guilford, 83-67, Wednesday At Home

EMORY, Va. – The Emory & Henry College Women's Basketball Team (18-6, 11-4 ODAC) assured itself one of the top three seeds in the 2016 Old Dominion Athletic Conference Tournament Wednesday evening with a convincing 83-67 win over Guilford College (18-4, 12-3 ODAC) at the John Rutledge King Center.

It was E&H's first win over Guilford since November 30, 2009, when the Wasps claimed a 65-61 victory at home. The Quakers are currently the number two ranked team in the NCAA Division III South Region.

The two teams went back and forth for the first 6:30 of the game but a 10-2 run by Emory & Henry covering 1:18 gave the Wasps a 24-18 advantage. E&H extended its lead to 29-21 at the end of the opening period. Guilford trimmed the margin to one with 8:21 to go before the half (31-30), but Emory & Henry finished the half on a 20-8 run for a 51-38 advantage.

The Wasps held control of the game for the entire second half, not allowing the Quakers to get any closer than seven points. E&H would lead by as much as 16 three different times in the final three and a half minutes, cruising to the victory in its final home game of the season.

Junior guard Megan Jacoby (Richmond, Va.) had a team-high 20 points and added 10 assists to complete the double-double. She went seven-for-12 from the field, and added four rebounds and two assists to her tally. Senior forward Karina Farr (Graham, Wash.) also went seven-for-12 on the night, adding 16 points, four rebounds and four assists.

Senior forward Tamara Brewster (Morrow, Ga.) and freshman guard Tessa Johnston (High Point, N.C.) each put up 14 points off the bench as Brewster pulled down four boards and Johnston connected on four three-pointers. Freshman guard Taylor Blevins (Abingdon, Va.) chipped in 11 points and seven rebounds on five-for-seven shooting.

As a team, the Wasps shot 49.2 percent (32-for-65) from the field, hitting seven three-pointers. Emory & Henry also dominated the paint, 44-24, and scored 18 points off of 16 Guilford turnovers.

The Quakers were paced by Anais Weatherly's double-double, as she put up 24 points, 15 rebounds, two assists, three steals and a block. Lauren Ramsey had 13 points and five rebounds while Essence Abraham chipped in eight points off the bench. Guilford shot just 24-for-64 (37.5%) on the night, but won the battle of the boards, 42-36, including a 13-6 margin on the offensive glass.

Emory & Henry will travel to face Randolph-Macon College in its final regular season game of the year Saturday. The Wasps and Yellow Jackets are set to tip-off inside Crenshaw Gymnasium at 4:30 p.m.
