DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. – The Emory & Henry College Women's Basketball Team (7-3) outscored the Massachusetts College of Liberal Arts (5-5) by a 39-27 margin in the second half to come away with a 56-53 victory Wednesday in the Daytona Beach Shootout.

How It Happened
- The two squads got off to a slow start from the field, battling to a 4-4 tie at the 3:49 mark of the opening period. The Trailblazers finished the quarter on an 8-2 run for a 12-6 advantage through 10 minutes of play.
- In the second, the MCLA was able to slowly extend its advantage to 26-17 at the intermission. A 5-0 run over the final 2:07 pushed a four-point lead out to nine.
- The opening four minutes of the third quarter saw the Trailblazers increase their lead to 17 (38-21) thanks to a 12-4 run. Emory & Henry came alive for the final 5:39 to outscore MCLA by a 20-4 margin and make the score 42-41 with one quarter to play.
- E&H got its first lead since the 4:16 mark of the first quarter on a three-pointer by senior guard Megan Jacoby (Richmond, Va.) to open the fourth. The period featured three ties and three lead changes as neither team would be ahead by more than three points the entire way. The Wasps took the lead for good with 3:41 left and held on for the 56-53 win.
Emory & Henry Individual Leaders
- Jacoby led the team in scoring for a second straight day with 13 points, contributing five assists, four rebounds and seven steals.
- Sophomore guard Tessa Johnston (High Point, N.C.) and freshman forward Sydney McKinney (Big Stone Gap, Va.) each had nine points, four rebounds and two steals off the bench as Johnston connected on a trio of three-pointers.
- Sophomore forward Taylor Blevins (Abingdon, Va.) went four-for-eight from the field to finish with eight points and five rebounds.
Massachusetts College of Liberal Arts Individual Leaders
- MCLA put three players in double figures led by Kayla Hotaling with 10 points, nine rebounds and four blocks.
- Courtney McLaughlin hit three three-pointers on her way to 11 points, four rebounds and two blocks while Emily Moulton had 10 points four boards and two blocks off the bench.
A Deeper Look
- Emory & Henry shot a season-low 16-for-66 (24.2%) from the field, but six three-pointers and an 18-for-28 (64.3%) day at the free throw line was key in the win.
- MCLA went 42.6% (20-for-47) on its field goal attempts including an 11-for-22 effort in the second half, however the charity stripe was unkind to the Trailblazers as they hit just 7-of-14 (50%) of their free throws.
- The Wasps forced the Trailblazers into 37 turnovers with a +23 margin which they translated to a 33-14 advantage on points off turnovers.
- Emory & Henry pulled down 20 offensive rebounds to edge MCLA, 41-40, in total rebounding. E&H led 15-6 on second-chance points.
- Both squads scored 18 points in the paint while the Wasps held a 28-23 advantage on bench scoring.
