EMORY, Va. – The Emory & Henry College Women's Basketball Team (16-7, 10-4 ODAC) assured itself of a first round bye in the 2017 Old Dominion Athletic Conference Tournament with a dominating 81-48 win over Bridgewater College (13-10, 6-8 ODAC) on Senior Day Saturday. The Wasps honored seniors Megan Jacoby (Richmond, Va.) and Asja Jenkins (Richmond, Va.) prior to the start of the contest.

How It Happened
- The squads battled to a 6-6 tie at the 7:29 mark of the opening period before the Wasps went on a 9-2 run to lead 15-8 with 3:01 on the clock. Emory & Henry would lead, 16-13, after 10 minutes of play.
- E&H shot 61.1 percent (11-for-18) from the field in the second quarter as it outscored BC by a 24-10 margin. A 15-2 outburst of offense by the Wasps gave them a 40-21 advantage late in the frame and a 40-23 lead at the half.
- Bridgewater quickly closed the gap down to 12 at 42-30 with seven of the first nine points of the second half. Emory & Henry responded at the end of the third with the final 11 points to push its lead to 27 (64-37) with a quarter remaining.
- In the fourth the Wasps were able to give their starters a significant amount of rest which also allowed their bench players to reap some significant playing time against a conference foe. E&H continued to increase its lead though the final buzzer as it went on to defeat BC by the 33-point margin.
Emory & Henry Individual Leaders
- Eleven different players put their names in the scoring column for the Wasps led by sophomore forward Laken Blackburn (Wilkesboro, N.C.) with 14 points on seven-for-nine shooting in just nine minutes played.
- Freshman forward Sydney McKinney (Big Stone Gap, Va.) had 15 points and seven rebounds while freshman forward Aubrianna Peebles (Mocksville, N.C.) went made all five of her field goals for 11 points in eight minutes of court time.
- Sophomore guard Tessa Johnston (High Point, N.C.) had eight points, three rebounds, three assists and three steals while freshman forward Kara Stafford (Bristol, Tenn.) notched seven points, eight rebounds and five steals.
- Jacoby tallied seven points, five rebounds, five assists and two steals while Jenkins put up six points and a game-high seven assists. Freshman forward Peyton Williams (Saltville, Va.) added seven points, three rebounds and three steals and a block of her own.
Bridgewater Individual Leaders
- Kaitlyn Lehan had 15 points and five rebounds shooting five-for-five from the floor while Jessica Lam registered 11 points and two rebounds.
- Rebecca Harvey contributed 10 points and three rebounds while Sydney Carey had two points, six assists and two rebounds.
A Deeper Look
- Emory & Henry hit 44.3 percent (31-for-70) of its field goal attempts with four three-pointers and made 15-of-20 (75%) of its chances at the foul line.
- Bridgewater was 16-of-40 (40%) for the game, hitting a trio of triples. The Eagles struggled at the free throw line, hitting just 54.2 percent (13-of-24) of its opportunities.
- The Wasps held a staggering 45-25 rebounding advantage and used 23 offensive boards to earn 20 second-chance points.
- E&H led 48-22 on points in the paint and took advantage of 35 Bridgewater turnovers for 37 points.
- Emory & Henry assisted on 21 of 31 made field goals, a 67.7% assist rating.
