SALEM, Va. – The Emory & Henry College Women’s Basketball Team has seen two of its players selected to the 2017 All-Old Dominion Athletic Conference Teams, ODAC officials announced Thursday. It marks the third year in a row that the Wasps have had multiple players recognized by the league. The All-ODAC teams are selected by the conference’s 12 head coaches.
Senior guard Megan Jacoby (Richmond, Va.) and sophomore forward Taylor Blevins (Abingdon, Va.) earn all-league second-team accolades for the second year in a row. Jacoby’s third nod to an All-ODAC Team makes her just the fourth player in program history behind Anne Wright (Crutchfield), Kelly Smith (Houseright) and Karina Farr to be honored on in three separate seasons.
Jacoby has started all 25 games for E&H this year, playing an average of 35.5 minutes per night. She averages 10.4 points per contest and leads the league with 6.3 assists per game, a mark that is good for sixth nationally. Jacoby also ranks second in the league in steals per game (18th in Division III) and has the third-best assist-to-turnover ratio in the ODAC (1.9).
The Amelia Academy graduate has scored in double figures 13 times this season, putting up 23 against Washington and Lee on Wednesday, February 15. She has 14 games with six or more assists including four times where she dished-out 10 or better. Jacoby ranks first in E&H history in all assist categories and is second in each column for steals.
Blevins also started all 25 regular season games for the Wasps this year and leads the team in both scoring (13.4 ppg) and rebounding (7.4 rpg). She also boasts the squad’s best field goal percentage, hitting 56.3 percent of her attempts from the floor, a mark that is third-best in the ODAC and 23rd in the country.
The Abingdon, Virginia native and last season’s ODAC Rookie of the Year has scored 10 or more points 17 times this year with a season-best 27 points against Virginia Wesleyan on Saturday, January 28. She has notched eight double-doubles on the year and leads the Wasps in blocks (15).
The third-seeded Wasps will face #11-seed Shenandoah University on Friday at 8:00 p.m., in the ODAC Tournament Quarterfinals. It will be the first postseason meeting between E&H and SU. Emory & Henry swept the season series with Shenandoah, earning a 103-43 home victory on Saturday, December 2 and winning, 64-40, on the road on Saturday, February 4.
