FOREST, Va. – Emory & Henry College sophomore forward Kara Stafford has been selected as the Old Dominion Athletic Conference Women's Basketball Player of the Week, ODAC officials announced Monday. It is the first since late in the 2015-16 season that an E&H player has earned weekly honors from the league.
The Bristol, Tennessee native led Emory & Henry (11-4, 4-2 ODAC) to a pair of ODAC wins over Guilford College (83-69) and Bridgewater College (84-74) last week. Stafford notched a team-high 19 points against the Quakers on her birthday Wednesday, hitting a trio of three-pointers.
Saturday against the Eagles, Stafford had 17 points, eight rebounds and three assists. She went six-for-11 from the field and made all five of her free throw attempts.
Stafford has started the past three games and is averaging 8.4 points, 3.7 rebounds and 1.2 assists per contest this year. She leads the squad in free throw percentage (88.5%) with 3.1 free throws made per game and is fourth in field goal percentage (45.7%).
Emory & Henry, which has won six of its last eight games, will travel to Lynchburg College (13-2, 5-1 ODAC) in a key conference matchup Tuesday at 7:00 p.m.
