Emory & Henry Women’s Basketball Earns First-Ever Bid To The 2018 NCAA Division III Tournament

INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. – The Emory & Henry College Women's Basketball Team has received an at-large bid to the 2018 NCAA Division III Tournament, NCAA officials announced Monday. It marks the first time in program history that the Wasps have qualified for national competition.

Emory & Henry received one of 20 at-large bids from across the country to the 64-team tournament field. There were 43 teams which earned automatic berths from their conferences and one Pool "B" selection from a group of independents and a conference which does not qualify for an automatic bid.

Tickets will be on sale at the gate beginning at 4:00 p.m., Friday and 4:30 p.m., Saturday. There will be no presale of tickets.

The Wasps (22-6) will travel to Mechanicsburg, Pennsylvania for the first two rounds of the tournament, hosted by Messiah College. E&H will face off against Roger Williams University (23-5) out of Bristol, Rhode Island on Friday, March 2. Messiah will play Oberlin College in the first round of the tournament also on Friday and the two winners will meet Saturday evening with a spot in the Sweet 16 on the line.

Roger Williams also earned one of the coveted at-large bids, falling in the championship game of the Commonwealth Coast Conference tournament to the University of New England.

Messiah claimed the MAC Commonwealth Championship to earn an automatic berth after a 25-2 season. Oberlin won the North Coast Athletic Conference crown and holds a 21-7 record on the year.

The ODAC is a two-bid league this year with Randolph-Macon College (22-5) taking the automatic qualifier. Two of the Wasps' non-conference opponents in the University of Texas-Dallas (23-4) and Oglethorpe College (21-7) will also compete on the national stage.
