No. 23 Emory & Henry Women’s Basketball Pulls Away From Shenandoah, 76-55, Sunday In ODAC Action

WINCHESTER, Va. – The No. 23 Emory & Henry College Women's Basketball Team (5-0, 1-0 ODAC) kept rolling on Sunday afternoon with a 76-55 Old Dominion Athletic Conference victory over Shenandoah University (3-2, 0-1 ODAC).

How It Happened
- E&H and SU battled through three ties and three lead changes in the opening 10 minutes with the Hornets leading by as much as 20-15. The Wasps finished the quarter on a 5-2 run for a 22-20 score, capped by a three-pointer by senior guard Tessa Johnston (High Point, N.C.).
- In the second, Emory & Henry built a 32-27 advantage with 3:55 to go before the half, but Shenandoah tied things up, 34-all. Senior guard Chloe Harris (Bristol, Va.) gave the Wasps a 36-34 lead at the intermission scoring all seven of her points in the period.
- Returning to action, E&H scored 11 in a row to start the third and pushed its lead to 17 (58-41) with 2:43 on the clock. Shenandoah cut into the margin to get within 12 with one quarter to go.
- The two teams traded baskets for much of the fourth period but Emory & Henry finished the game on a 9-2 run to seal the 76-55 victory.

Emory & Henry Individual Leaders
- Senior forward Taylor Blevins (Abingdon, Va.) nearly posted a double-double with 19 points, nine rebounds and three steals.
- Junior forward Sydney McKinney (Big Stone Gap, Va.) had 14 points and three boards while Johnston, Harris and senior guard Jada Penn (Radford, Va.) each chipped in seven points.
- Junior guard Peyton Williams (Saltville, Va.) contributed nine assists, five rebounds, two steals and a block

Shenandoah Individual Leaders
- Ashley Stone led the Hornets with 13 points while Sierra St. Cyr had 12 points and five rebounds.
- Shannon Kuhn and Jordan Sondrol each contributed seven points with Sondol pulling down seven rebounds.
- McKenzie Mathis had six points, seven rebounds and five assists.

 A Deeper Look
- Emory & Henry made 49.1 percent (27-of-55) of its field goal attempts, hitting nine three-pointers. The Wasps also went 13-of-15 (86.7%) from the free throw line.
- Shenandoah managed just a 38 percent (19-of-50) field goal percentage and scored just 11 points at the stripe.
- E&H held a 35-30 rebounding advantage and led 18-9 on second-chance points.
- The Wasps also led 14-3 on points off turnovers, forcing 11 Hornet miscues.
