Emory & Henry Women’s Basketball Pulls Away From Washington and Lee, 88-73, Wednesday

EMORY, Va. – The Emory & Henry College Women's Basketball Team (14-3, 8-3 ODAC) saw four of its players reach double figures in scoring as it picked up a key Old Dominion Athletic Conference victory over Washington and Lee University (11-7, 8-4 ODAC), 88-73, Wednesday evening at home.

How It Happened
- Emory & Henry jumped out to a 7-0 lead and ran its advantage to 17-4 at the 4:29 mark of the first quarter. W&L finished the period on a 10-0 run for a 17-14 score.
- In the second, the Wasps pushed the lead back to seven (24-17) early but six in a row from the Generals closed the gap to 24-23. The two squads traded baskets for the remainder of the half with E&H taking a 35-33 lead into the intermission.
- Coming out of the break, the game remained tight until the Wasps went on a 13-3 run to extend their lead to 57-45. Emory & Henry would take a 59-51 advantage into the final 10 minutes of play.
- Washington and Lee came out in the fourth firing on all cylinders, closing the gap to two (71-69) with 4:16 left to play. The Wasps finished the game on a 17-2 run as the Generals went cold from the field on the way to the 88-73 win.

Emory & Henry Individual Leaders
- Junior forward Sydney McKinney (Big Stone Gap, Va.) had 19 points, seven rebounds and two blocks to lead the Wasps while senior forward Taylor Blevins (Abingdon, Va.) put up a double-double with 16 points, 15 rebounds, five assists and two steals.
- Sophomore guard Kylea Cooper (Hickory, N.C.) notched 15 points and three assists while junior guard Peyton Williams (Saltville, Va.) had 13 points, four rebounds, three assists and two steals.

Washington and Lee Individual Leaders
- Taylor Casey posted a game-high 21 points while Andy Smithey put up 15 points and four rebounds.
- Megan Horn and Erin Hughes each scored 13 points and three rebounds while Horn dished out five assists.

 A Deeper Look
- Emory & Henry made 32-of-65 (49.2%) field goal attempts including five three-pointers. The Wasps went 19-for-25 (76%) at the free throw line.
- Washington and Lee shot 42.4 percent (28-for-66) for the game with six triples. The Generals managed an 11-for-17 (64.7%) performance at the stripe.
- E&H held a 47-30 rebounding advantage and pulled down 15 offensive rebounds. The Wasps led, 52-40, on points in the paint.
- W&L committed just nine turnovers on the evening while E&H had 13 errors. The Generals held a 13-12 lead on points off turnovers.

- Emory & Henry will travel to the Tidewater on Saturday to face off against Virginia Wesleyan University in ODAC action. Tipoff is set for 2:00 p.m.
