LYNCHBURG, Va. – The #2 University of Lynchburg Women's Basketball Team (9-1) advanced to the semifinals of the 2021 Old Dominion Athletic Conference Tournament, holding off a late rally by seventh-seeded Emory & Henry College (6-8) for a 71-64 victory Saturday afternoon.

How It Happened
- E&H got out to a 10-5 lead at the 6:48 mark of the first period and after Lynchburg responded to go up 15-14 later in the frame, scored 11 of the next 13 points to carry a 25-17 advantage through 10 minutes of play.
- The Hornets swarmed in the second, erasing the deficit to tie the game at 30-all with 2:57 to go before the intermission and using an overall 14-2 run to go into the locker room up, 35-30.
- Lynchburg built an eight-point (43-35) advantage three minutes into the third frame and would lead by as much as nine later in the period before Emory & Henry closed the gap to 54-50 with 14 seconds on the clock. The Hornets led by seven going into the final stanza of the contest.
- The Wasps came out in the fourth on a 9-2 run to tie the contest at 59 with 6:48 to go. The squads traded baskets until the final minute. A pair of free throws by junior guard Taylor Gilbert (Abingdon, Va.) cut the deficit to 66-64 with 55 seconds left, but the Hornets scored the final five points of the game to claim the 71-64 win.
Emory & Henry Individual Leaders
- Junior center Alexis Hoppers (Sparta, N.C.) put up a team-high 13 points and added five rebounds while freshman guard Taylor Owens (Bristol, Tenn.) added 10 points off the bench.
- Gilbert finished the game with eight points and five rebounds while senior guard Josie Salyer (Mount Carmel, Tenn.) and sophomore guard Brylee Jones (Greeneville, Tenn.) had nine points each.
Lynchburg Individual Leaders
- Lizzie Davis led all players with 18 points and made it a double-double with 10 assists, adding six rebounds while Abby Oguich had 17 points, 10 boards and two blocks.
- Erin Green and Maggie Quarles went for 14 and 13 points, respectively.
A Deeper Look
- Emory & Henry shot 36.9 percent (24-for-65) for the game, making 11 three-pointers (40.7%). The Wasps struggled at the free throw line, making just 5-of-10 of their attempts.
- Lynchburg connected on 25-of-51 (49%) of its field goals with four triples. The Hornets shot 70.8 percent (17-for-24) at the charity stripe.
- LYN held a 36-30 rebounding advantage and outscored E&H, 40-20, on points in the paint.
