Emory & Henry Women’s Basketball Takes On Western Carolina In Exhibition Tuesday

CULLOWHEE, N.C. – The Emory & Henry College Women's Basketball Team put the finishing touches on its preseason with a final exhibition game against Western Carolina University (1-0) Tuesday afternoon. The Catamounts earned the 72-48 win.

How It Happened
- E&H got out to a 7-4 lead at the 7:15 mark of the opening period but WCU scored six in a row to go up 10-7 with 2:55 on the clock. The Wasps retook the lead late in the frame before the Catamounts scored the final bucket to take a 12-11 margin through 10 minutes of action.
- In the second, the squads traded baskets early out to an 18-all tie. Western went on an 11-3 run to make the score 31-20 on its way to a 37-24 lead at the intermission.
- After a basket by the Wasps to open the third quarter, 15 in a row by the Catamounts made it a 52-26 contest with 2:02 on the clock. WCU would lead, 57-32, going into the final period.
- The two teams went back and forth during the fourth quarter with E&H outscoring WCU by a 16-15 margin on the way to the 72-48 final score.

Emory & Henry Individual Leaders
- Senior center Alexis Hoppers (Sparta, N.C.) went 4-for-5 from the field for nine points and added two rebounds and two steals while sophomore guard Taylor Owens (Bristol, Tenn.) had six points and four boards off the bench.
- Freshman guards Taylor Pace (Greenville, S.C.) and Macy McClellan (Kingsport, Tenn.) each scored six points while senior guard Callie Haderer (Bristol, Va.) added five points, four rebounds, five assists and two blocks.

Western Carolina Individual Leaders
- Nadia Marshall led all players with 18 points and 12 rebounds as she went 8-for-12 from the floor.
- Zanoria Cruz posted 13 points, five rebounds, four assists and two blocks while Mykaylyn Davis went for eight points seven rebounds, four steals and two assists.

A Deeper Look
- WCU shot 45.9 percent (30-for-66) from the field while E&H made 17-of-56 (30.4%) of its baskets.
- The Catamounts held a 47-26 rebounding advantage and outscored the Wasps 15-4 on second-chance points.
- Western Carolina led, 48-18, on points in the paint but Emory & Henry led 18-16 on points on turnovers.

- Emory & Henry travels to play its first official game of the 2021-22 season on Saturday evening at Bridgewater College. Tipoff between the Wasps and Eagles is scheduled for 6:00 p.m.
