Queens Women’s Basketball Defeats Emory & Henry, 78-69, Sunday Afternoon

EMORY, Va. – The Queens University of Charlotte Women's Basketball Team (1-0) saw four players reach double figures in scoring as it picked up a 78-69 win over Emory & Henry College (1-1) in a matchup of future South Atlantic Conference foes Sunday.

How It Happened
- E&H got out to a 7-2 lead at the 7:08 mark of the first period but Queens scored 10 of the next 12 to take a 12-9 advantage. The Wasps bounced back with a 7-3 run to lead, 16-15, through 10 minutes of play.
- In the second, the Royals got back ahead, 24-20 and after trading runs with the Wasps, carried a 35-31 margin into the break.
- Returning to action in the third quarter, Queens extended its lead to 43-33 with an 8-2 run before Emory & Henry answered to make it a two-possession game, 47-41, with 3:06 on the clock. The Royals went ahead by 12 but four in a row by the Wasps to close the period made it 55-47 with one to go.
- E&H close the gap to six twice early in the final frame but Queens always had an answer and stayed just out of reach for the 69-78 win.

Emory & Henry Individual Leaders
- Freshman forward Emma Santoro (King, N.C.) put up a game-high 23 points and added seven rebounds while sophomore guard Taylor Owens (Bristol, Tenn.) had 12 points, three rebounds and two assists.
- Senior center Alexis Hoppers (Sparta, N.C.) scored seven points and had eight rebounds as freshman guard Grace Glance (Clyde, N.C.) pitched in six points, two rebounds and two steals.

Queens (N.C.) Individual Leaders
- Kayala Hall put scored 16 points and had three rebounds while Kristy Hamze had 14 markers, two rebounds, and two steals.
- Taylor Stevens went for 11 points, nine rebounds, eight assists and two steals as Kiana Barkhoff pitched in 10 points eight rebounds and three blocks.

A Deeper Look
- Emory & Henry shot 39.1 percent (25-for-64) from the field with six three-pointers and made 13-of-20 (65%) of their free throw attempts.
- Queens made 27-of-75 (36.0%) of its attempts from the floor with nine makes from long range. The Royals were 15-for-22 (68.2%) from the charity stripe.
- The squads tied on rebounding at 46 apiece and Queens had a slim 12-11 edge on second-chance points.
- The Royals led 18-12 on points off turnovers, taking advantage of 22 Wasp errors but the E&H bench out-scored its Queens counterpart by a 27-21 margin.
