Emory & Henry Women’s Basketball Handles Salem (N.C.), 73-62, Wednesday Evening

EMORY, Va. – The Emory & Henry College Women's Basketball Team (2-1) picked up a 73-62 win over visiting Salem (N.C.) College (1-2) on Wednesday. All 16 players who suited up for the Wasps played at least five minutes as 13 put their name in the scoring column.

How It Happened
- The Wasps jumped out to an 11-2 lead 7:05 into the contest. A 10-3 run by Salem closed the gap to 14-12, but three straight by E&H to close the period made it 17-12 at the end of the period.
- The two squads traded baskets early in the second before Emory & Henry went on a 10-4 run to extend its advantage to 30-23. The Wasps would go into the locker room up, 31-27.
- Coming out of the break, E&H's offense began firing on all cylinders as it the third with 23-straight points push the margin to 54-27. The Wasps would lead by a much as 28 (59-31), taking a 59-34 lead into the final 10 minutes of play.
- Emory & Henry continued to go to its bench, giving each player meaningful minutes early in the season. The Spirits were able to cut into the deficit in the final minutes of the game, but the Wasps' advantage was to much to overcome. E&H cruised to the 73-62 win.

Emory & Henry Individual Leaders
- Freshman forward Emma Santoro (King, N.C.) led all players with 14 points, adding six rebounds, three steals, two assists and two blocks while junior guard Brylee Jones (Greeneville, Tenn.) posted 12 points and three rebounds.
- Senior guard Callie Haderer (Bristol, Va.) had nine points, six rebounds and to steals while freshman guard Macy McClellan (Kingsport, Tenn.) went for seven points and four rebounds off the bench.
- Senior center Alexis Hoppers (Sparta, N.C.) tacked on nine points, four boards and two steals as junior guard Amaya Lee (Bristol, Va.) had two points, five rebounds, five assists and two steals.

Salem (N.C.) Individual Leaders
- Alize Brooks posted a team-best 13 points to go along with three steals while Kyana Thomas had 11 points and six rebounds.
- Tyler Davenport notched 11 points and five rebounds as Natasha Guo scored seven points off the bench.

A Deeper Look
- Emory & Henry made 25-of-64 (39.1%) of its shots including eight three-pointers. The Wasps shot 78.6 percent (11-for-14) in the third period alone.
- Salem shot just 31.8 percent (21-for-66) in the contest and made just 3-of-15 (20%) of its threes. The Spirits were 17-for-24 (70.8%) from the free throw line.
- E&H had a 48-41 rebounding advantage but Salem held an 11-9 edge on second-chance points.
- The squads were even, 20-20, on points off turnovers as the Wasps committed 23 errors and the Spirits had 22 miscues in the game.
