No. 6 Lander Women’s Basketball Rolls Past Emory & Henry Sunday Afternoon

GREENWOOD, S.C. – The No. 6 Lander University Women's Basketball Team (6-1) scored 36 points in the third quarter as it pulled away from Emory & Henry College (3-5) Sunday afternoon for a 103-40 win. The Bearcats, who reached the NCAA Division II Final Four last year, are ranked No. 6 in the latest WBCA Division II Top 25 Poll.

It was the first time an Emory & Henry opponent has hit the century mark in a game since University of Pikeville posted 103 points on January 3, 2016.

How It Happened
- LU built a 7-3 lead at the 6:14 mark of the opening period, but E&H responded to tie things up at 11-11 and 13-13. The Bearcats scored the final four points of the quarter to lead, 17-13.
- In the second, Lander opened with eight straight to go up, 25-13. Still leading by 12 with 3:34 to go before the half, the Bearcats went on a 7-1 run to close things out for a 45-27 margin.
- Lander scored 12 of the first 14 points of the third to extend its lead to 57-29 as it began to pull away. The Bearcats outscored the Wasps by a 36-4 margin in the third, going into the final period with an 81-31 advantage. The fourth saw LU continue to put space between itself and E&H, cruising to the 103-40 win.

Emory & Henry Individual Leaders
- Senior guard Callie Haderer (Bristol, Va.) led the Wasps with 10 points and five rebounds while junior guard Brylee Jones (Greeneville, Tenn.) went for seven points and two boards.
- Freshman guard Hannah Spainhour (King, N.C.) had six points off the bench.

Lander Individual Leaders
- Makaila Cangé led all players with 25 points, adding five rebounds three assists and three steals.
- Zamiya Passmore went for 22 points, eight assists, six rebounds and three steals while Miriam Recarte had 16 points and nine boards.

A Deeper Look
- Emory & Henry made 33.3 percent (12-of-36) of its field goals and shot 13-for-24 (54.2%) at the free throw line.
- Lander made 41-of-84 (48.8%) of its shots and hit 51.7 percent (15-of-29) of its attempts from the line.
- LU held a 44-35 rebounding advantage and outscored E&H, 27-2, on second-chance points.
- The Bearcats forced the Wasps into 41 turnovers, scoring 55 points on their ensuing possessions.
