Young Harris Women’s Basketball Tops Emory & Henry, 70-58, Friday Evening

EMORY, Va. – The Young Harris College Women's Basketball Team (7-1) completed the season sweep of Emory & Henry College (3-6), pulling away in the fourth quarter for a 70-58 victory on Friday. The contest featured five ties and 15 lead changes during the first three periods.

How It Happened
- The two teams went back and forth early in the contest with the Wasps leading, 9-8, at the 5:02 mark of the first period. E&H then scored five in a row to push its lead to 14-8 before YHC finished the quarter on a 12-5 run for a 20-19 advantage.
- The second was much of the same as the Mountain Lions would gain a five-point advantage on three separate occasions. Emory & Henry retook the lead, 35-34, with 2:20 to go before the intermission but Young Harris scored the next four for a 38-35 margin at the break.
- Returning to action in the third quarter, the Wasps scored seven in a row to go up, 42-38, but the Mountain Lions responded with a 7-1 run to regain the lead. The remainder of the frame was punch and counterpunch as YHC took a 54-52 lead into the final 10 minutes of play.
- Young Harris started the fourth on a 14-0 run to go up 68-52. E&H finished the game with six of the final eight points but the deficit was to much to overcome and YHC came away with a 70-58 win.

Emory & Henry Individual Leaders
- Senior guard Callie Haderer (Bristol, Va.) posted a team-high 14 points to go along with three rebounds and two assists while freshman forward Emma Santoro (King, N.C.) went for 12 points and seven rebounds off the bench.
- Junior guard Brylee Jones (Greeneville, Tenn.) scored 11 points to go along with two assists and two steals while senior center Alexis Hoppers (Sparta, N.C.) notched 10 points and five rebounds.
- Junior guard Amaya Lee (Bristol, Va.) contributed two points, seven assists, five rebounds and four steals.

Young Harris Individual Leaders
- Mackenzie Johnson led all players with 16 points and 14 rebounds for a double-double, tacking on four steals and two blocks as Niaya White went for 13 points, six boards, three assists and two steals.
- Carissa Spiker posted 11 points, three rebounds and two assists off the bench while Carly winter added 10 points.

A Deeper Look
- Emory & Henry hit 20-of-56 (35.7%) of its shots with eight three-pointers and went 66.7 percent (10-of-15) at the free throw line.
- Young Harris shot 42.3 percent (30-of-71) for the game, connecting on seven shots from long range. The Mountain Lions made just four trips to the free throw line, adding three points.
- YHC held a 45-35 rebounding advantage and used 15 offensive boards to post a 21-7 lead on second-chance points and a 30-22 lead on points in the paint.
- E&H led 11-2 on fast break points and 21-17 on points off turnovers.

- Emory & Henry will be on the road on Monday when it visits Mary Baldwin University. The Wasps and Fighting Squirrels will take the court at 6:00 p.m.
