Alice Lloyd Women’s Basketball Topples Emory & Henry, 74-54, Wednesday Afternoon

EMORY, Va. – The Alice Lloyd College Women's Basketball Team (9-4) built a 17-point halftime lead on its way to a 74-54 win against Emory & Henry College (4-7) Wednesday at the John Rutledge King Center. The contest served as the Wasps' inaugural Education Day as elementary school students from the area attended the game.

How It Happened
- Emory & Henry jumped out to a 6-2 lead early in the contest but Alice Lloyd tied things up at 9-all with 6:04 on the clock. The Lady Eagles used a 7-2 run to take an 18-13 advantage late in the first, leading 18-15 through 10 minutes of play.
- In the second, ALC scored eight in a row to go up 26-15 and stretched the advantage to 21 (41-20) with 53 seconds remaining before the break. The Lady Eagles went into the intermission up, 41-24.
- E&H returned to action scoring seven in a row to cut the margin to 11 (41-30) at the 8:22 mark of the third but a 9-2 run by the Lady Eagles spread the gap back to 18. Alice Lloyd would lead, 58-39, with one quarter remaining. The fourth frame saw the teams trade baskets as ALC cruised to the 74-54 victory.

Emory & Henry Individual Leaders
- Senior center Alexis Hoppers (Sparta, N.C.) nearly posted a double-double with 11 points and nine rebounds to lead the Wasps while freshman forward Emma Santoro (King, N.C.) had eight points and four boards.
- Sophomore guard Taylor Owens (Bristol, Tenn.) went for seven points off the bench as senior guard Callie Haderer (Bristol, Va.) notched seven points, two rebounds and two assists.
- Freshman forward Grace Glance (Clyde, N.C.) posted six points, five rebounds and three assists.

Alice Lloyd Individual Leaders
- Alex Clifton led all players with 21 points, shooting 9-for-13 from the field, adding seven assists and two steals while Haley Hall registered 14 points, six rebounds and two assists.
- Ali May scored seven points, three rebounds and three assists as Bailey Brainard and Katie Moore scored six points each off the bench.

A Deeper Look
- Emory & Henry made just 26.2 percent (16-of-61) of its field goals and was 2-for-20 from long range. The Wasps made 20-of-24 (83.3%) of their shots from the line.
- Alice Lloyd hit 25-of-66 (37.9%) of its shots with five makes from beyond the arc. The Lady Eagles converted 79.2 percent (19-of-24) of its free throw attempts.
- ALC pulled down a 51-29 rebounding advantage and used a 17-12 lead on the offensive glass to outscore E&H 12-19 on second-chance points.
- The Lady Eagles led, 18-11, on points off turnovers but the Wasps held a 24-22 advantage on points in the paint.
