Emory & Henry Women’s Basketball Defeats Bluefield State, 77-65, Thursday On The Road

BLUEFIELD, W.Va. – The Emory & Henry College Women's Basketball Team (7-7) moved to .500 on the year as it defeated Bluefield State College (0-10), 77-65, Thursday evening on the road. The Wasps shot a season-best 51 percent (26-for-51) from the field on their way to the win.

How It Happened
- E&H jumped out to a 10-2 lead at the 7:07 mark of the opening period and used an 8-0 run later in the frame to lead 26-12 through 10 minutes of play.
- The Lady Blues closed the gap to 11 (29-18) with 8:02 in the second quarter but a 6-2 by the Wasps made it 35-20 with 4:54 to go before the break. Emory & Henry carried a 43-31 lead into the intermission.
- Returning to action, the two squads traded baskets out to a 50-38 E&H lead. Five in a row by the Wasps gave them their largest lead of the night, 55-38 as BSC closed the gap back to 13 with one quarter remaining, 58-45.
- The fourth saw the teams continue to go back and forth before Bluefield State closed the gap down to seven (65-72) with 2:02 left to play. Emory & Henry scored the final five points of the contest to seal the 77-65 win.

Emory & Henry Individual Leaders
- Senior guard Callie Haderer (Bristol, Va.) had a double-double with 24 points, 12 rebounds and four steals while senior center Alexis Hoppers (Sparta, N.C.) went for 26 points and five rebounds to lead all scorers.
- Junior guard Claudia Frost (Damascus, Va.) scored eight points and pulled down three rebounds as freshman guard Macy McClellan (Kingsport, Tenn.) had five points, six rebounds, three assists and two steals.

Bluefield State Individual Leaders
- Alexus Tucker put up a team-high 16 points, six rebounds, three assists and three steals.
- Londen Coleman had 13 points, seven rebounds, two assists, two steals and two blocks as Autumn Spangler tallied 13 points, four rebounds and three steals.

A Deeper Look
- Emory & Henry's 51 percent (25-for-61) shooting percentage included five makes from long range. The Wasps also shot 20-for-25 (80%) at the free throw line.
- Bluefield State hit just 26-of-66 (39.4%) of its field goals but converted 12 three-pointers on the evening. The Lady Blues only reached the charity stripe three times in the game, making one shot.
- The two teams tied, 35-35, on rebounding and BSC held a 17-7 lead on second-chance points.
- The Wasps outscored the Lady Blues, 38-26, on points in the paint.
