Carson-Newman Women’s Basketball Topples Emory & Henry Wednesday Evening

JEFFERSON CITY, Tenn. – The Carson-Newman University Women's Basketball Team (15-3) picked up a 90-51 win over future South Atlantic Conference opponent Emory & Henry College (7-9) on Wednesday evening. The Lady Eagles are currently receiving votes in the WBCA NCAA Division II Top 25 Poll after previously being ranked as high as No. 19 earlier in the season.

How It Happened
- C-N opened up a 9-1 lead at the 7:08 mark of the opening period and pushed its lead to 15-3. Emory & Henry went on a 15-6 run, closing the gap to 21-18 through the end of one.
- The Wasps tied the contest at 21- and 23-all but a 14-2 run by the Lady Eagles gave them a 37-25 advantage with 3:27 to go before the intermission. Carson-Newman finished with the final six points of the half to lead, 45-30, at the break.
- Returning to action, the Lady Eagles scored eight of the first 12 in the third quarter to extend their lead to 19 (53-34) with 5:49 on the clock. Carson-Newman cruised to the win, outscoring Emory & Henry by a 23-10 margin in the fourth period to win, 90-51.

Emory & Henry Individual Leaders
- Junior guard Brylee Jones (Greeneville, Tenn.) posted a game-high 17 points off the bench to go along with two rebounds and two assists while sophomore guard Taylor Owens (Bristol, Tenn.) had 12 points and three boards.
- Freshman forward Emma Santoro (King, N.C.) went for eight points, four rebounds and two assists while senior guard Callie Haderer (Bristol, Va.) scored seven points and pulled down three boards.
- Junior guard Amaya Lee (Bristol, Va.) went for two points, six assists, five rebounds and four steals on the night.  

Carson-Newman Individual Leaders
- Harli Smith scored 15 points, four assists and two rebounds as Lindsey Taylor posted 13 points, nine rebounds, four steals and two assists.
- Braelyn Wykle notched 13 points, three assists, three steals and two rebounds while Sydney Pearce put up 12 points and seven boards.
- Campbell Penland registered nine points, eight rebounds, four assists, three steals and three blocks.

A Deeper Look
- Emory & Henry made just 20-of-66 (30.3%) of its shots with five makes from beyond the arc. The Wasps were 6-of-8 (75%) from the free throw line.
- Carson-Newman shot an even 50 percent (38-of-76), hitting six three-pointers and went 8-for-12 (75%) at the charity stripe.
- C-N led, 50-34, on rebounding and outscored E&H, 52-24, on points in the paint.
- The Lady Eagles took advantage of 26 Wasp turnovers, to post 29 points on their next possessions.

- Emory & Henry remains on the road on Saturday when it visits University of Mary Washington. Tipoff between the Wasps and Eagles, who are ranked 23rd in NCAA Division III, will be at 1:00 p.m.
