Mary Washington Women’s Basketball Downs Emory & Henry Saturday Afternoon

ARLINGTON, Va. – The University of Mary Washington Women's Basketball Team (13-3) got out to a 22-9 lead at the end of the first period and never looked back, defeating Emory & Henry College (13-3) by a 61-37 score Saturday afternoon. The Eagles are the No. 23-ranked team in NCAA Division III.

How It Happened
- The two teams traded baskets early to a 6-5 Eagle lead at the 7:28 mark of the opening period. UMW closed the frame on a 16-4 run for a 22-9 advantage through 10 minutes of play.
- In the second, Mary Washington started out on a 12-4 run to extend its margin to 21 with 1:49 to go before the intermission. The Eagles carried a 36-16 lead into the break.
- Returning to action, the teams went back and forth before the Eagles pushed their advantage to 26 (50-24) before carrying a 53-28 margin into the final period. In the fourth quarter, E&H and UMW traded buckets as the Eagles cruised to the 61-37 victory.

Emory & Henry Individual Leaders
- Junior guard Brylee Jones (Greenville, Tenn.) scored five points and added two assists and one rebound while freshman guard Macy McClellan (Kingsport, Tenn.) posted five points and two rebounds.
- Freshman forward Emma Santoro (King, N.C.) put up four points, six rebounds and an assist as freshman guard Mimi Traynham (Richmond, Va.) posted four points, and two rebounds.
- Freshman forward Grace Glance (Clyde, N.C.) notched four points and five rebounds with senior center Alexis Hoppers (Sparta, N.C.) contributing four points.

Mary Washington Individual Leaders
- Molly Sharman led the Eagles with nine points and five rebounds as Keagan Schwab scored nine points of her own.
- Jordan Carpenter posted six points and 10 rebounds as Ashley Martin went for eight points, three rebounds and two assists.

A Deeper Look
- Emory & Henry shot just 26 percent (13-of-50) for the game with a trio three-pointers. The Wasps went 8-for-12 (66.7%) from the free throw line.
- Mary Washington shot 22-for-56 (39.3%) from the field with four makes from long range. The Eagles shot 65 percent (13-for-20) at the charity stripe.
- UMW held a 42-33 rebounding advantage and led 10-5 on second-chance points. The Eagles also notched a 26-8 margin on points in the paint.
