Emory & Henry Women’s Basketball Rolls Past Montreat, 73-44, Saturday On The Road

MONTREAT, N.C. – The Emory & Henry College Women's Basketball Team (10-11) used a 21-point third period to pull away from Montreat College (11-13) for a 73-44 victory Saturday afternoon.

How It Happened
- The two teams battled through three lead changes and a tie early in the contest before E&H took the lead, 7-6, with 5:53 on the first period clock. The Wasps closed the frame on an 11-6 run for a 16-12 advantage.
- In the second, Emory & Henry started off on a 9-2 run to push the margin to 11 (25-14). After the Cavaliers trimmed the deficit to two (25-23), the Wasps scored the final 14 points of the half to take a 39-23 lead into the break.
- Coming out of the intermission, E&H added to its run with 17 more for an overall 31-0 run and a 56-23 advantage. The Wasps would lead by as much as 35 late in the third and several times in the fourth as they coasted the final 10 minutes to the 73-44 win.

Emory & Henry Individual Leaders
- Junior guard Brylee Jones (Greeneville, Tenn.) led the Wasps with 15 points as she went 6-for-11 from the field and added three steals.
- Senior center Alexis Hoppers (Sparta, N.C.) had 12 points, three rebounds and two steals while freshman forward Emma Santoro (King, N.C.) pitched in 10 points, six rebounds and two assists.
- Junior guard Amaya Lee (Bristol, Va.) went for seven points, five rebounds, four assists and three steals.

Montreat Individual Leaders
- Caleigh Raby posted a game-high 19 points to go along with three rebounds and two steals while Destiny Lewis went for 12 points, two rebounds, two assists and two steals.
- Jesyka Leak recorded five points, 11 rebounds and two assists.

A Deeper Look
- Emory & Henry hit 50 percent (31-of-62) of its shots and made five three-pointers. The Wasps were a perfect 6-for-6 from the free throw line.
- Montreat struggled from the field, hitting just 18-of-70 (25.7%) of its shots and was an ice-cold 2-for-30 (6.7%) from long range. The Cavaliers scored six points (6-of-8) at the stripe.
- E&H held a 45-39 rebounding advantage and a 13-11 margin on second-chance points.
- The Wasps dominated down low, outscoring the Cavaliers by a 50-22 margin on points in the paint.

- Emory & Henry will host Bluefield State College on Thursday at 7:00 p.m. The contest will be the Wasps' annual Play4Kay game, in support of the Kay Yow Cancer Fund.
