Emory & Henry Women’s Basketball Holds Off Bluefield State, 58-52, Thursday At Home

EMORY, Va. – The Emory & Henry College Women's Basketball Team (11-11) led wire-to-wire for a 58-52 win over Bluefield State College (3-17) Thursday evening in a matchup of NCAA Division II independents. With the victory the Wasps sweep the season series over the Lady Blues.

How It Happened
- E&H jumped out to an 11-2 advantage at the 5:54 mark of the opening period and, after BSC closed the gap to 13-10 later in the period, went on to lead 17-12 through 10 minutes of action.
- In the second quarter saw the teams trade baskets with the Lady Blues cutting it to four (23-19) with 4:25 to go before the break. The Wasps scored eight of the final 12 points of the half going into the locker room up 31-24.
- Bluefield State hit the first two buckets of the third frame to cut the score to 31-29 but E&H went back ahead by six 38-32 later in the period. The Lady Blues again got within two, 38-36, with one quarter left to play.
- Emory & Henry opened the fourth on an 8-1 run to lead by nine (46-37) and had timely baskets down the stretch to ward off each BSC attempt to tie the contest. The Wasps went 6-for-8 from the free throw line in the stanza to come away with the 58-52 win.

Emory & Henry Individual Leaders
- Senior guard Callie Haderer (Bristol, Va.) shot 7-for-13 from the field for a team-high 16 points to go along with five rebounds, five assists and three steals.
- Freshman forward Grace Glance (Clyde, N.C.) put up 12 points, eight boards, two steals and two blocks off the bench as sophomore guard Taylor Owens (Bristol, Tenn.) and freshman guard Hannah Spainhour (King, N.C.) each had seven points.
-  Junior guard Amaya Lee (Bristol, Va.) went for five points, seven rebounds and three assists.

Bluefield State Individual Leaders
- Londen Coleman led all players with 17 points, adding five rebounds, while Azariah Binford had 13 points, four rebounds, four assists and three steals.
- Katrina Davis managed eight points, three rebounds and two assists.

A Deeper Look
- Emory & Henry shot 40 percent (22-of-55) from the field with four three-pointers on the evening. The Wasps hit 10-of-12 (83.3%) of their free throws.
- Bluefield State made just 20-of-56 (35.7%) of its shots but connected on six baskets from long range. The Lady Blues struggled at the line, hitting just 54.5 percent (6-of-11) of their uncontested shots.
- E&H held a 37-35 rebounding advantage and led, 17-10, on points off turnovers.
- Both squads scored 24 points in the paint while the Wasps' bench beat their counterpart 28-9.
