Milligan Women’s Basketball Outlasts Emory & Henry, 61-55, Saturday Afternoon

EMORY, Va. – The Milligan University Women's Basketball Team (3-2) outscored Emory & Henry College (0-1) by an 18-13 margin in the fourth quarter on its way to a 61-55 win Saturday afternoon in the season-opener for the Wasps.

How It Happened
- The two teams battled to a 14-all tie through 10 minutes of play. Trailing 4-3 with 7:42 on the clock, Milligan reeled off seven in a row to make it a 10-4 contest. The Wasps finished on a 10-4 run to knot the contest at the end of the period.
- After more than three minutes of scoreless action to start the second quarter, both squads began to find a rhythm. E&H went ahead, 19-16, before MU scored seven in a row to gain a 23-19 advantage with 3:30 to go before the half. The Wasps and Buffaloes traded baskets through the end of the frame, going into the half tied, 28 apiece.
- Emory & Henry came out of the locker room on an 10-1 run over the first three minutes to go ahead 38-29. The Wasps went cold from the field for the remainder of the third as the Buffaloes closed on a 14-4 run to lead, 43-42 with one quarter to go.
- E&H battled back to tie things up, 48-48, with 7:28 left in the game and again at 52-each with 3:34 remaining. Milligan would finish on a 9-3 run to claim the 61-55 win.

Emory & Henry Individual Leaders
- Sophomore guard Macy McClellan (Kingsport, Tenn.) had a team-high 11 points, hitting a trio of three-pointers while sophomore forward Emma Santoro (King, N.C.) posted eight points, six rebounds, two steals and two blocks.
- Sophomore guard Hannah Spainhour (King, N.C.) scored eight points and five rebounds off the bench while redshirt freshman forward Breanna Yarber (Meadowview, Va.) added seven points and three boards.
- Senior guard Amaya Lee (Bristol, Va.) tacked on six points, five steals, three assists and two rebounds.  

Milligan Individual Leaders
- Lauren Longmire led all players with 16 points and added four rebounds while Kaylee Hendrickson scored 11 points off the bench.
- Kayla Romines posted eight points with Kristy Galea going for seven points and three boards.

A Deeper Look
- Emory & Henry shot just 32.3 percent (20-for-62) for the game compared to 19-for-48 (39.6%) for Milligan. The Buffaloes made 10 three-pointers compared to six for the Wasps.
- Both teams struggled at the free throw line with Emory & Henry shooting 9-for-17 (52.9%) and Milligan 59.1 percent (13-for-22).
- MU held a 35-34 rebounding advantage but E&H notched a 26-16 lead on points in the paint and an 11-6 margin on second-chance points.
