Emory & Henry Women’s Basketball Downs Lees-McRae, 63-50, Thursday On The Road

BANNER ELK, N.C. – The Emory & Henry College Women's Basketball Team (1-1) earned its first win of the season on Thursday evening, as it defeated Lees-McRae College (0-4) by a 63-50 score at Williams Gymnasium. The Wasps outscored the Bobcats by a 36-18 margin in the second half on their way to the victory.

How It Happened
- E&H jumped out to a 7-1 lead at the 7:27 mark of the opening period. The Bobcats clawed their way back into the game, tying things up at 11-11 thanks to a 10-4 run that covered 3:45. The Wasps scored the final five points of the quarter to hold a 16-11 advantage through 10 minutes of play.
- The two teams traded baskets through the first five minutes of the second frame with Emory & Henry ahead, 25-22. Lees-McRae finished on a 10-2 run to take a 32-27 lead into the locker room.
- Coming out of the half, the Bobcats extended their lead to eight (35-27) with 9:42 on the clock, but a 14-1 run by the Wasps flipped the momentum as they went back up, 41-36, with 96 seconds left in the third to lead 41-38 with one stanza to go.
- In the fourth, Emory & Henry used a 14-2 run to make it a double-digit contest at 54-40 with 4:20 to play. LMC would get no closer than 11 the rest of the way as the Wasps cruised to the 63-50 win.

Emory & Henry Individual Leaders
- Redshirt freshman forward Breanna Yarber (Meadowview, Va.) led the way with 14 points, eight rebounds, three steals and two assists while senior guard Amaya Lee (Bristol, Va.) put up 14 point, four steals and three rebounds, going 4-for-5 from long range.
- Sophomore forward Emma Santoro (King, N.C.) had 12 points, seven boards, and three assists while sophomore guard Macy McClellan (Kingsport, Tenn.) scored 10 points to go along with two rebounds and two assists off the bench.
- Sophomore forward Grace Glance (Clyde, N.C.) totaled seven rebounds and a pair of blocks.  

Lees-McRae Individual Leaders
- Sandra Mason paced the Bobcats with 13 points while Jala Hollman went for 11 points and two assists.
- Aurora Roberts notched nine points and eight rebounds as well.

A Deeper Look
- Emory & Henry hit 37.7 percent (23-of-61) of its shots with six three-pointers on the evening. The Wasps were 11-for-18 (61.1%) from the free throw line.
- Lees-McRae connected on 20-of-58 (34.5%) of its field goal attempts and made seven shots from beyond the arc. The Bobcats only reached the charity stripe seven times all evening, scoring just three points (42.9%).
- LMC held a 37-32 rebounding advantage, but E&H made the most of its 11 offensive boards as it led, 12-8, on second-chance points.
- The Wasps posted a 17-15 margin on points off turnovers and a 7-0 lead on fast-break points.
