Georgia College Women’s Basketball Defeats Emory & Henry, 77-54, In Young Harris Classic Saturday

YOUNG HARRIS, Ga. – The Georgia College & State University Women's Basketball Team (6-0) remained undefeated on the year as it picked up a 77-54 win over Emory & Henry College (2-2) Saturday evening in day one of the Young Harris Classic.

How It Happened
- The Wasps and Bobcats traded baskets throughout the opening quarter with neither team leading by more than three points. GC hit a three-pointer just before the buzzer to take an 18-17 advantage through 10 minutes.
- E&H opened the second with five of the first eight points to go ahead, 22-21, with 8:29 on the clock but six in a row by Georgia College gave the Bobcats a 27-22 lead. GC closed the half on a 10-2 run for a 39-29 margin going into the locker room.
- Returning to action, the squads went back and forth to a 52-42 score but six in a row by the Bobcats made it 58-42 with one quarter to play. In the fourth, Georgia College pushed its advantage out to as much as 27 (77-50) with 1:06 to play, but E&H scored the last four points for the 77-54 final margin.

Emory & Henry Individual Leaders
- Redshirt freshman forward Breanna Yarber (Meadowview, Va.) posted a game-high 17 points on 6-for-14 shooting with a pair of three-pointers and six rebounds. Sophomore forward Emma Santoro (King, N.C.) went for nine points, five rebounds, and two assists.
- Senior guard Brylee Jones (Greeneville, Tenn.) had six points, three steals and two assists while sophomore guard Mimi Traynham (Richmond, Va.) notched six points, three assists and two rebounds off the bench.
- Senior guard Amaya Lee (Bristol, Va.) put up five points, five assists, two rebounds and two steals.

Georgia College Individual Leaders
- Harper Vick led the Bobcats with 15 points, five rebounds, four assists and two steals as Myra Strickland had 12 points, four rebounds, two assists and two steals off the bench.
- Alexa Geary notched 10 points, two assists and two steals while Dashaun Jackson went for eight points and seven boards.
- Jada Warren pulled down a game-high 11 rebounds.

A Deeper Look
- Emory & Henry made 37 percent (20-of-54) of its shots including seven makes from three-point range. The Wasps were 7-for-10 (70%) at the free throw line.
- Georgia College hit 25-of-67 (37.3%) its attempts from the field including 11 from beyond the arc. The Bobcats scored 16 points at the free throw line on 24 attempts (66.7%).
- GC out-rebounded E&H, 52-29, including 21 offensive boards. The Bobcats held a 22-6 lead on second-chance points.
- Georgia College also took advantage of 18 Emory & Henry errors to hold an 18-8 lead on points off turnovers.
