Young Harris Women’s Basketball Tops Emory & Henry, 67-57, Sunday Afternoon

YOUNG HARRIS, Ga. – The Young Harris College Women's Basketball Team (3-1) scored 28 points in the fourth quarter to overcome a 44-39 deficit on its way to a 67-57 win over Emory & Henry College (2-3) Sunday afternoon in the final day of the Young Harris Classic.

How It Happened
- The Wasps got out to a 6-2 lead at the 7:15 mark of the opening period and extended the margin to 14-7 with 1:42 on the clock. E&H held a 16-13 advantage at the end of 10 minutes.
- Young Harris opened the second on a 10-2 run to go ahead, 22-18, with 6:13 to go. The Mountain Lions scored 10 in a row later in the frame for a 32-22 advantage but the Wasps closed the gap to 34-28 at the intermission.
- Coming out of the break, Emory & Henry outscored Young Harris 16-5 in the third quarter to go ahead 44-39.
- YHC turned on the offense in the fourth, starting with an 11-5 run to retake the lead, 51-49. The Wasps tied things up at 51-all with 6:39 remaining but a 10-3 run by the Lions made it a 61-54 contest with just under three minutes to play. Emory & Henry cut the margin to five with 34 seconds left, but Young Harris hit all six of its free throws down the stretch to hold on for the 67-57 win.

Emory & Henry Individual Leaders
- Sophomore forward Emma Santoro (King, N.C.) had 11 points, four rebounds and three steals while redshirt freshman forward Breanna Yarber (Meadowview, Va.) went for 11 points and four boards.
- Sophomore forward Grace Glance (Clyde, N.C.) posted 10 points, five rebounds and four steals with senior guard Brylee Jones (Greeneville, Tenn.) notching nine points and four assists.
- Sophomore guard Jordan Gresham (Lenoir City, Tenn.) led the Wasps' bench with six points.

Young Harris Individual Leaders
- Mackenzie Johnson went for a game-high 23 points and 21 rebounds, going 6-for-12 from the field and 11-for-13 from the free throw line. Trinity Edwards had 14 points, five rebounds, four assists and three steals.
- JaMari Frederick and Kaela Ward tallied seven points each with Kalen Surles going for six points, 11 rebounds, five assists and two blocks.

A Deeper Look
- Emory & Henry shot just 20-for-66 (30.3%) from the floor with five three-pointers on the afternoon. The Wasps went 12-for-16 (75%) from the free throw line.
- Young Harris connected on 35.6 percent (21-of-59) of its attempts with five triples of its own. The Mountain Lions made the difference in the game at the charity stripe, going 20-for-23 (87%).
- YHC held a 54-32 rebounding advantage and pulled down 15 offensive boards on its way to a 13-4 lead on second-chance points.
- The Wasps outscored the Mountain Lions, 26-17, on points off turnovers taking advantage of 24 Young Harris miscues.
