Emory & Henry Women’s Basketball Holds Off Lincoln Memorial, 62-59, Saturday At Home

EMORY, Va. – The Emory & Henry College Women's Basketball Team (5-4, 2-0 SAC) picked up its second South Atlantic Conference win in as many tries on Saturday, taking a 62-59 win over visiting Lincoln Memorial University (5-6, 1-2 SAC).

How It Happened
- E&H opened up an 8-2 lead at the 4:27 mark of the opening quarter, but five in a row by LMU close the gap to 8-7. The Wasps would lead, 10-8 through 10 minutes.
- In the second, Emory & Henry started on an 8-3 run to lead 18-11 and scored six in a row down the stretch on the way to a 24-16 halftime advantage.
- Coming out of the break, the Lady Railsplitters scored 11 of the first 15 points to close the gap to 28-27 but a 12-3 run by the Wasps pushed the margin to double digits at 41-30 with 2:03 left on the clock. Emory & Henry held a 44-35 advantage with one quarter to play.
- The Wasps used a 9-6 run to start the fourth to extend their lead back to 12 (53-41) with 6:02 left to play but a 10-3 run by the Lady Railsplitters closed the gap to 56-51 with just over 2:07 to go. Emory & Henry scored five of the next seven to hold a seven-point lead (61-54) with 27 second remaining. LMU scored five of the final six points but the deficit was too much to overcome as E&H held on for the 62-59 win.

Emory & Henry Individual Leaders
- All nine players that got in the game put their mark in the scoring column led by sophomore guard Hannah Spainhour (King, N.C.) with 15 points and two rebounds on 6-for-11 shooting.
- Sophomore forward Grace Glance (Clyde, N.C.) had 10 points, nine boards and three blocks off the bench while sophomore forward Emma Santoro (King, N.C.) went for nine points, seven rebounds and two blocks.
- Sophomore guard Macy McClellan (Kingsport, Tenn.) finished with eight points and three rebounds as senior guard Amaya Lee (Bristol, Va.) contributed two points, six rebounds, four assists and two steals.

Lincoln Memorial Individual Leaders
- Saquita Joyner posted a game-high 22 points to go along with nine rebounds and three steals while Alexa Smiddy had 14 points, four boards and four steals.
- Alexis Schulz finished with 10 points, seven rebounds and two assists as Geovana Rios notched four points, six rebounds, three steals and two assists.

A Deeper Look
- Emory & Henry hit 45.8 percent (22-of-48) of its shots and went 16-for-22 (72.7%) from the free throw line.
- Lincoln Memorial was just 23-for-75 (30.7%) from the field and made just 12.1 percent (4-of-33) of its shots from three-point range. The Lady Railsplitters converted 9-of-13 (69.2%) of their free throw chances.
- LMU held a 41-39 rebounding advantage including an 18-5 mark on second-chance points. The Lady Railsplitters led the Wasps, 11-4, on second-chance points.
- Both teams did most of their scoring down low, with Lincoln Memorial holding a 34-32 edge. The Wasps' bench was more efficient, leading their Railsplitter counterpart, 27-5.
